Servicing Specialized

I see a lot of similarities between specialized and apple

I've taken my iphone 5 apart, repaired it for water damage and also multiple battery changes.

I'm sure the specialized is just as easy...if I'm not too scared to break anything.

A mate worked out that he spent R20k on bike services last year (S-works Epic as MTB option) vs R4k on 60,000kms service for his Audi.

Something seriously wrong with this sport, a bubble maybe?

That's nuts. I spent 1/3 of that on all 4 of our MTBs. I do the servicing myself. That includes a new drivetrain for the one bike.

People commenting on the hours between servicing of the brain forks and shocks...

Fox is worse, every 30 hours new oil every 100 hours full strip and service.

But you can do it yourself

I can assure you that a large percentage of both readers of this forum and joe public do not... so that point is moot.

I call BS on this. Unless he broke something big there is no way you can rack up 20k in services on a single bike.

Complete cyclist charge +- R600.00 for a major service. They quoted me parts and labour R3500 for Front and rear suspension service, headset + bb replacement, and pivot service.

So your mate had one of these services every 2 months?

S-works mostly run XTR. New chain, rings and cluster is around R7-8k or so. Without labour... One service, with some parts and bearings is an easy R10k.

Either that, or he takes his bike in for a wash and lube service every Monday. Or he is riding SRAM 11spd and is getting shafted without Vaseline on Cassette prices. (It's an S-Wors so I'm guessing Eagle.)

The whole SPez things is quite interesting - once you paid SO MUCH for a bike . You feel you SHOULD also pay ALLOT to maintain it and its WORTH the  money since you PAID SO MUCH for it - it MUST be expensive to service it - I mean you dont pay THAT much for a BIKE and then its cheap to maintain . Part of what you pay for is the PRESTIGE of the BRAND

Most of it. You'll need some stuff you don't find in the average garage to rebuild a FIT damper.
