I wonder how the introduction of teams will affect the seeding weighting of the event. Surely if you ride in a team you will get a faster time and a better seeding so basically if you ride in the individual category you at a disadvantage? I think the team category could be fun though, from a racing perspective and would attract most of the top seeded riders.

i really wanted to do the full distance this year.  the 109 km version was my very first race last year and i had to, of course start at the back.  now I've worked myself up the alphabet a bit and they go do this team thing

"The team category will be followed by one or two bunch start groups comprising of individual riders, and riders wishing to ride as teams who did not get an entry for the team category."

One or two... ffs.  so i guess it'll be the 109km once again.

Hellshoogte normally sorts out the strong from weak in any case. .. Just give it 100% up hells and wheel suck the bunch you end up with. They normally stronger than you as they don't go balls to wall up there..

Just do the ~160km ... its only 50km extra (well 60)

Roux, are you at it again? If you want to ride on your own, why do you enter the races where other people will be racing around you, most of who are racing with a club or other forms of teams?

The team gig is different in that it's racing but the rest of the team looks out for each other during the race and the pacing strategy works so that the team races at their slowest riders pace for hanging on. It adds a new element to both training and racing and gives us mere mortals an opportunity to experience what racing is like for the pros in the sport, without having to change that much in our lives other than upping our own game so that you're not that slowest rider in the team....

I reckon that unless they somehow keep the team and individual riders apart for the whole duration of the ride this idea is going to be a stuff up.

Also interesting to see that there will be a "race" and a "ride" category in the 109 km event.

Does anyone know what the difference between the 2 categories would be taking into consideration that normal PPA seeding applies in any event ?

I think we know Rouxtjie is an undercover Try Athlete.

I also did the 109km last year. I'm quite interested to do the "Teams" 170km. That being said I don't have a team unless someone knows of an opening in theirs? Or if we can try get a team together in time?

Any takers?

I did the Cyclo Sportif in 2hr50min on a steel frame Hansom

We may have some spots, as not everyone in the DC team is around for one tonner. But the discount is not massive with teams, only R5 each. We may even just enter as individuals and then just rock up on the day and ooo and ahhh into the teams start chute.

So, the DC has been announced and on twitter the PPA have mentioned there will be a team event at the Enjoy one tonner this year!

Nice addition I think.

Lets just hope you get a lekker discount if you enter 12 okes!

How does Aaron feel about this? Surely this is another case of team discrimination! When will administrators learn to leave our sport alone!!!

I hope he is not going to have a go at the Pure Savage Club if things don't work out. Although the blog post afterwards will be a good read ;)

Forget about teams. It't not like someone else is going to stomp on one of your pedals to help you. Enter for the 170km and if for any reason you don't feel up to it on the day just drop back - racetec will pickup your start group and adjust results accordingly.

Best case scenario is you complete the 170KM purely on your own. It will fee so good. Also do the STBB MTB on Saturday right before this ride to make sure you are "in the zone".
