Look, fact is that Gwinn may likely have won that race was it not for his mistake.  I just reckon this weekend proved that the best will still win regardless of what Loic Bruni says about wheelsize.  Besides, it's hard to hear him whinge all the way down there on the rankings.

Also, Jack Moir won Aussie Nationals on 650b wheels, taking down Brosnan in the process. So he's just on form and a tall bloke as well so bigger wheels make sense.

My money is on Gwinn for Lego Land though.  He's definitely on the pace.

BUT

He made the mistake..wrong decision at the wrong time.

After seeing that video of Greg one must really appreciate how incredible his run was seeing that the conditions deteriorated so much when he did his run.

Lets just wait for the REALLY tight track before we start jumping on the 29er bandwagon...

Horses for courses.

It's not like the Syndicate don't have 650b horses in the stable..... It's another weapon in their arsenal.

Much like guys have a race bike, a fun bike and a road bike and pick the appropriate machine for their planned excursion, I think it would be silly to say that one or 2 guys won't pick a smaller wheeled bike for certain races... options options options

1st of all I would just love to congratulate GM. He is 35 now and by the looks of things, still going strong. But now I would love to throw a cat among the pigeons here.

I remember a couple of years ago one Robert Hunter was awarded the South African cyclist of the year award in the year when GM was world champion (I don't remember which but he had done so more than once and all RH did was to win one stage in the TDF). I remember mister Hunter expressing how superior road cyclist are and how he deserves the reward. Certainly its old news, but I think its time that ALL south African cyclist acknowledge a bit the performance and consistency performing in a world class and UCI sanctioned event like GM has done and continues to do. I accept some will have a number of issues with what come now, but think about it. Where is RH now AND what did the South African cycling federation do to acknowledge GM's contribution to cycling?

Go Greg!!

true that...I dont for one minute disagree that he does not get nearly enough recognition as an athlete in this country...but members of CSA and KZN Cycling were very influential in getting him to europe to start with...organising accommodation, lifts etc etc...and i think that is why you will see he is still somewhat involved in both csa and the uci

IIRC he was getting fed up with the UCI's rules and regs and some of the "racing" politics outside of the Syndicate.

Also am The only one who thinks the UCI should make A rule next year that you have to ride the same wheelsize for your entire season ?
