Showering after an "out-of-town" Sunday race

Hi all

I'm enjoying all the out-of-town races in this beautiful country of ours, especially the stage races. The only question I have is; where does one shower after a race that takes place on a Sunday? Is the only option to book another night's accommodation (whether you stay the night or not)?

Am I the only one with this issue? I don't want to drive for four to five hours without showering...and most accommodation venues I've asked won't allow extended hours. They want you out by 10:00am.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I have no answer... but will be following this with interest...

I used to organise events for various companies, and was quoted R20k for 4 mobile showers per day.... So unless its a massive event, I just can't see it being worth it for event organisers...

I have had this need after a few races and usually phone (or pitch up at) a guesthouse/B&B and ask if I can pay for the use of a shower. Many say yes and few charge for the priviledge. I always leave enough for them to pay a few hour's wages to re-clean the bathroom.

I have also had the use (arranged before hand) of a shower at the spa of a larney country hotel for a few bucks and sometimes just wash under a tap at the Engen.

Get a chamois camping towel and a 5lt plastic container with a lid. Fill container with hot water from tap before you leave accommodation for the race. 5lts will cover all your cleaning needs! Chamois towel may get very soiled with the initial wipe down. Take a second beach towel with for a proper dry down and to cover when you change out of whatever kit you left on while you were having a clean down into dry clothes. Rinse the chamois towel out when you get home.
