‘Patch’ exposes some harsh realities....

I’ve seen pics of poor kids bumping sweets off cyclists traversing the Himalayas - looks more acceptable ‘cause they’re not ‘Black’.....sad, but speaks to our bias.

A certain sector of our society is now promoting the American ‘trick or treat’ tradition in SA, which IMO is a more dignified way of begging, but begging nonetheless - I’ve yet to hear the moral out rage.

I see the eager anticipation in my kids eyes when it comes to ‘treats’ and I’m left without a doubt that if circumstance was very different, they could easily have been those kids on the side of the road.....

So while my initial response may be irritation, once my Oakley Prizm lenses of privilege have been safely tucked into my matching helmet, empathy becomes the reality.

It could be worse, just imagine if I was focused....

I have 3 Christmas bike runs planned, 2 for children's homes and 1 for SPCA. The children's homes we will delver toys, sweets and coldrinks which will be allocated in an orderly, fair and dignified manner and i do this because I want to not because I feel guilty. If throwing left over sweets makes others feel good so be it.

PPA road seeding for 947 is out...1.29 beta.

Problem is that that the winning time is quite a fast time which hurts the rest of us mortals on seeding index.

Although I had a good ride, I still have a better number at another event.

What Device are you recording this on?

What app did you use to incorporate the information?

Pretty cool, what software did you use to get the speed, HR and map data on the video?  Also was that a Gopro or something else?  Thanks

I had a Mobius action cam mounted to my handle bars, with a 64 GB micro SD card, and connected to a battery pack to keep it powered for more than the standard 2 hours. This recorded the raw video footage.

I recorded my ride data on a Garmin Edge 520, which was connected via bluetooth/ANT+ to my heart-rate sensor, speed sensor and cadence sensor.

I merged the video footage and Garmin data with free software called Garmin VIRB Edit.

Trick or treating is easily stopped.

When said creatures come knocking at your door and all belching out "Trick or Treat", give them handfulls of chopped veggies, carrots or brussel sprouts.

They dont come back and they also tell their friends

Save yourself some money and the effort of chopping and only hand out the hightlighted one.
