Love how quickly they've moved 12 speed to the midrange, surely this is going for the jugular of XT which I suspect has long been Shimano's bread and butter from a volume/margin perspective?

Yes yes it's not mandatory to go 1x12 at all, but with 34t and 10-50 you've got higher high range and lower low range (compared to standard 32t with 10-42) with small enough increments in between... put the question to the average rider and they'll probably guess that more is more so choose the 1x12.

Chain looks more reasonably priced. If only the cassettes weren't still so darn expansive, but suspect cheaper alternatives are already in the works from 3rd party providers.

Great news for everybody like me who think 11-50 really is not needed. All of SA's MAMILS will soon be upgrading because it's more 'budget friendly' than ever.

Looking forward to 11sp components going for bargains.

I run 1 x 10 with 30 up from my and 42 at the back. I'm not a big thighs power guy and have yet to find any where I can't spin up with that.

EDIT: don't get me wrong I'm keen to go 11s and 46. But I thought going 1x was simpler, lighter and better. I had lots of gears, then I was told I needed less gears for more money and now I'm being told I need more gears, more sprockets and more moremess... again.

Stop being so contrarian and get your wallet out already.

Since my new bike came with Eagle XX, I am pretty chuffed to now have access to a NZ$250 cassette, far nicer than the $750 XX one! Not that I have been doing any riding, so my cassette is shiny and new still.

So going from an 1x11 setup to this I would require the cassette, shifter and derailleur.

What about the freewheel body?  Does anyone know if an 11sp body handle the 12sp cassette?

10 - 50 not 11 - 50

If its a Sram XD body the 12 speed will fit.

At that price point they are WAY off putting pressure on XT, a single % of riders who can or will dish out R8k plus for one extra gear.
