Afternoon all! I hope Hubland is having a lovely Sunday!

Unfortunately a disappointing end to my cycling weekend occurred in the form of a side wall tear on my 3 month old Contis (clinchers). Has anyone seen or experienced this before? Can I claim warranty? I'm running on Powertap clinchers. Brake pads do not touch the side wall!

Looking at that tear and the condition of the tyre I would try warranty. If the warranty isnt approved then a patch on the inside as others have stated should also work. CWC also has gp4000's on sale at the moment I see, R499 each ????

Looking at the wear dimple in  the tread, It looks like you have not cycled a lot in the last three months, probably under 500km?

That kind of tear could (possibly but probably not) have been caused by the weight of the bike on the rim pushing against a flat tire (in storage) or a snake bit impact (more possible) against a rock/pavement and after pumping the tire a few times to 8 bar, it eventually tears.

It is sad that such a failure occurred so early in the tire's life.  Old tires (as in age not wear) do fail.  As a mtb/runner type, I have lost a number of road tires due to them just perishing on the rim as a result of non use,  so I know your pain

Don't bother to try and repair.  You will end up with a bump in the tire that will drive you mad.  Those tires expand a lot when you pump them up and the repaired section does not stretch as much as the rest.

Ja, Conti tyres.  "highly recommended".

Owned 'em for literally 15 minutes on my MTB before the sidewall got destroyed.

Lesson learnt.

Don't even try to repair. The pressure on a road tyre is way too high. You don't want them to explode on a fast descent. Throw it away and buy a new one.

IMHO the MTB tyres are not as good as the road. Have used varies conti road for years with good service, Tried them on my commuter on the last tyre change and could not wait to change back to maxxis. In fact changed prematurely.

I had the same issue and got a warranty swap out for mine. Was pretty bleak when it happened 120km into a ride in Villiersdorp. Managed to get back to Stellenbosch with some cash shoved in there.

Mine just let go in middle of road, pumped to 110.

Like Veebee said.

You could try warranty, but I doubt you'll be successful.

Keep us posted though.

I've emailed CWC to claim warranty. Let's see what they reply.
