Ah most excellent. My mind was gonna run wild with that one all night.

I must admit, the idea that a calorie is not a calorie is starting to grow on me, becuase then a watt is surely not a watt.

I have taken a keen interest in Phil Gaimon, but i sometimes get bummed out at the sheer wattage his body cottage throws down, but my sadness was misplaced. Not all watts are created equal. When he is hammering 420watts up Mt Badly for an hour, it actually is pretty similar to my 300 280watts (...for 20 minutes...rounded up...without being able to repeat again in 5minutes) We're just cooking with different kinds of watts. Thats reassuring.

Carefull there... your wattage theory is going to cost you of you practise your calorie theory.

w/kg is the ONLY wattage that matters. And how much you can conjure up in as tiny body as possible...

I have a few kilos I can lose but I am trying out another theory also...

I am trying to gain muscle on the engines as to be able to produce more watts. I have found that my wattage does not increase when I am too lean - I have found I actually lose some max watts but being able to sustain more on average. So now I am trying to increase both as I think I reached the limit of the watts I can squeeze out my scrawnies...

80% of losing fat or weight is what you put in your mouth. you can train like a man possessed and come home and eat rubbish and not lose weight. Start with that. If you think you are eating well, then look at what you eating when throughout the day and adjust.

Hey man I am trying along with more weight training -> Protein shakes, high-pro diet, protein cereal for breakfast... have gained 3.5kg in 2weeks... none I can tell on my legs

Sir, in your totally professional coach's opinion, how many of those milkshakes pictured above should I have weekly for maximum gains? :whistling:

maybe try it a bit slower than that!!! :P

Small caloric surplus. You want clean gains, not mostly fat...

Probably over exaggerating a bit. But yes I am trying to gain some semi lean as I don't gain anything lean. I am at least now only rolling 3kg up and down and not 10 - 15kg.

What I have learned - the weight always goes to the wrong places and is never lean.

Didn't Jeroen do his own self experiment and form a conclusion on this exact topic over the December holidays? I am sure I remember seeing him tweet about it.

I believe this - there are lots of highly trained fatties in the A bunch... scary thing is if they all where to lose the weight how fast would they be???

Almost certainly water retention. all the energy (not fat) that gets packed away actually gets packed with water. so 1g glycogen needs 4g water. ciencia puta!!

I did a self-experiment as well. Lost 12kg over Dec/Jan, and didn't feel deprived in any way. On my third belt in 6 months... Don't get me started on the clothes.. it's turning out to be financially crippling.

I think it's been said before - lose weight in the kitchen, get strong on the road. I need more time on the road. and in the kitchen... FML

What you also need to understand or take into serious consideration that lighter isnt always better. Yes, when you do a W/kg calculation it looks fantastic cause power is up, however each person has a threshold. Lose to much weight and you cannot produce the power, you don't recover from hard intensity and you have no sustainability. You smash 500W for intervals 1 and 250W for the 3rd.

Personal example is that at 61kg - 8/9% and Im good, numbers are good and so forth. Drop to 59/60kg and Im completely crap but the calculations show I should be better but Im not.

Age group riders look at 12-15% BF range and work from there.

Lighter often isnt always better.

Yes, it wasnt a experiment so to speak, it just happened that way.
