And what if my very built mate that finished Ironman?

It's not that black and white!

We can get pedantic over this, and go on and on but my original comment was based on yours that if you don't want to get huge, don't lift heavy - paraphrasing here. 

Too many people believe, especially woman, that it you going to touch a barbell you're going to bulk up. It's not that easy, especially if you do endurance sports. Splitting time and energy between 2 disciplines is not going to result in a person excelling in either.

In my original comment I said that this worked for me personally.

what worked for me is HIGH INTENSITY TRAINING  and low carbs 

if you count your calories and up your exercise intensity the FAT must fall 

try running stairs

Avoided white carbs for 10 weeks:

- bread

- pasta

- rice

- sugar

- potato

Apart from that ate like a pig

 

Lost 10 kg

I have previously gained 8kg in one week by eating exactly the same as I did during a training block of 30 hours a week and lost 5kg in another week just by not drinking any milk. (I was a SteriStumpie addict but ate normally otherwise.) it is amazing how we fool ourselves about what we take in if you don't pay attention for a few weeks.

Eat less.... but still enough though. Too little will bring some troubles all of it's own, and also not likely much weight loss.
