#givehimthe7winsback fails by virtue of the fact that:

1. EPO was one element of a cocktail of drugs LA took

2. Some of the other drugs have well documented and know performance increasing properties.

3. All of the above is pointless anyway because as column writer for the Star Tim Richman so accurately described the TDF in his book, Is it me or is everything ***: "spandex clad monkeys cheating it up and down a hill for 3 weeks." In light of the above LA was the best cheat at the time and hence still deserve his wins back anyway.

Clairity statement:

As I know it is after all Friday, and most hubbers most certainly suffer from massive sense of humor failure due to the onset of cold winter morning training sessions. All of my views are my own and therefore also 100% factually correct, in no way should be interpreted as anything else. Also please note that this post is in no way intended to diagnose, treat and or cure any medical conditions... F#ck this is fun and I probably could carry on for at least the next half an hour, but I need to pretend that I have a job now.

Wait, who died and made you the resident Hub medical doctor, chemist, Grand Tour winner, pro coach, etc.? Eh?

Hey stop trying to hijack this into a typical Friday thread,

Back in your box please!!!!

If indeed it is found to have no proven benefit, taking into account the amount of money LA spent on doping and been as litigious as he is perhaps he can also sue for a refund from his suppliers.

I think LA would just be happy with his name back on the results sheet, he would never sue them

Interestingly there was once a view that injecting testosterone did not make a difference in weigh lifters performance. The doctors performing the study had increased the lifters levels by responsible margins, say 10% and that sort of thing.

Then the lifters started experimenting on their own but they threw caution out the window and went with massive doses instead. Suffice to say they got results and then some.

Perhaps something similar is happening here. The EPO study is playing well within the safety margins whereas plenty of cyclists have died from EPO use implying significantly higher levels.

Agree, and obviously there are limits to what you can/mat ethically do with substances that have been known to be linked with increased risk of death

Im too lazy to read through the thread to see if anyone already said this, but EPO was just one out of many things used in conjunction.

Even if EPO does nothing(yeah right) then the rest of the stuff he was taking did.

I wonder if Lance ever backhanded someone on a trail? - its Friday after all.

I'm definitely no scientist, but isn't EPO more a recovery drug, rather than a performance enhancer? In a three week tour you will surely benefit from enhanced recovery.

Very useful for recovery. Go out and smash a hard training ride without the accumulation of adverse effects and then repeat on loop for nice gains.

It appears that part of the objective of the trial was to investigate how to safely test claimed PEDs:

"….and to present a model clinical study for doping research on other substances."

"This study shows that clinical studies with doping substances can be done adequately and safely and are relevant in determining effects of alleged performance-enhancing drugs."

As I have it EPO doen't let you recover. It essentially presents more oxygen to the working muscles, where the roids assist with recovery and building afterwards.

EPO stimulates the body to produce more red blood cells. Thats it

Only if you breath more too.

That's what's holding me back from an illustrious TdF career (as well as being an extreme outlier in age), is that I forget to breathe? Glad to have it confirmed!

Note to self, suck and blow, repeat ad infinitum.....

Oh FFS, I know how it works ????

My point was about how the Hub loves using the exception as the rule.

And in any case, I took homeopathic calming pills this morning so I'm not geared to debate today. And before you tell me they don't work, I once read a study that said they do, so they do, it's science.

Just be careful not to overdose ...
