Thanks for all the feedback guys.

I've been to northcliff cycles now and to put a spanner in the works what about a:

2017 titan sport

Shimano claris all round for 5k

I find the titan to be newer much heavier but maybe more reliable.

My biggest concern is buying the cannodale and it breaks a few months later and going tp cost be like 6k to fix which i didn't budget spending

I still say go for the Cannondale.

That groupset is rather bullet proof, some new cables and a good clean and its lekker.

Check the classifieds, you can pick up an entire drive train, including crank for 1500.

Just because the titan is new, doesn't mean that it's more reliable or less likely to break. And if it does, it'll be more expensive to repair than the Dale.

The titan will also leave you with a *** resale value when you decide to upgrade, which you will, if you take the titan.

The Cannondale is a great bike, proven frame and good groupset. If it fits, it's a lovely base to upgrade when the bargains come along on the classifieds... If it's lasted this long, it'll keep lasting.

NO.

Don't do it. I implore you.

There is nothing on the Cannondale to break that cannot be fixed/upgraded cost effectively. Roadbike frames can and do last forever.

For R5 000 you can buy the Cannondale, keep the balance and upgrade components when needed.

You have the chance of buying something special (that will keep ALL of its value) for less than a (frankly) , piece of junk built down to meet the bargain basement price-point, that will lose most of its value as soon as you take it out the shop.

Get the Dale and if you have issues with it looking old then you send it down to bogus for some custom fresh paint. Upgrade the components like Gummi did(105 would be fine) on his and you could probably sell a bike like that for 10k. Flip a bike like that dale must be a dream to ride.

To put your worries at bay about things falling apart: I'm currently riding a Giant frame from 2000, with Shimano 105 Components from I'm guessing 1995-1998(Haven't been able to exactly nail this down) and there is not a damn thing wrong with it. Basic servicing and replacement of cables is all that I have done. Looking at upgrading to 10 Speed, just waiting for the right bargain to come around. And have to figure out what BB I have.

The morale of the story is: go for the Dale and be happy riding on a classic beauty

Don't buy the Titan, it isn't in the same league.

That 'Dale looks clean and an upgraded groupset over time will make it up to date, you wont be sorry.

If you turn the Dale over and underneath the bottom bracket you will find stamped into it the initials of the person who hand built it in the Cannondale Factory in Bedford in the States.

Unfortuantly the Titan does not have that kind of heritage or history.

To be honest, Im looking for a frame like that, in that size, but I am looking for a BB30 model.

Why BB30?

English threat has no squeaks  :whistling:

BB30 on came out at around the CaaD8 if i remember correctly.

I have the SI Hollowgram cranks already.

The CAAD 5 already did have BB30, it was just not known as BB30 then, just SI.

Basically looking for a  CAAD  ALU frame with BB30, that does not cost more than a new Carbon frame.

Once again thanks for all the advice guys!

Just picked up the cannondale. Fitting was done and it was a perfect size for me.

The guys at Linden cycles where great and treated me as if i bought a 30k bike.8c79b45338d3867b5e8f32888a68cf2e.jpg

You made the right choice.

Personally I don't think R3500 for a 15 year old bike with SORA is a good buy. I would say R2000 is more reasonable.

For R3500 you will get a much newer Raleigh with Tiagra components.

I have also never been a fan of those wheels. I don't think you will find spares for them. If a spoke breaks, you'll probably have to toss the whole wheel.

Small problem though - you cannot compare a Dale with a Raleigh !!
