Laryngitis and Exercise

Morning Hubbers!

So with 947 only 3 weeks away, I managed to pick up the very contagious laryngitis and it's been hanging around since Wednesday and I just can't seem to shake it but I can't postpone my training any longer.

To those who've suffered from this, is high intensity exercise OK? I've read on a few websites (read: not completely reliable) that if the problem sits in the throat and not the stomach you're OK to exercise at a lower intensity.

one thing that exercise does is weaken your immune system. so, perhaps hold off?

first prize for 94.7 is you feel fine on the bike and finish with no problems. second prize... you make good friends with the paramedics.

the other option is behind door #2 and that's to sit it out if you don't feel 100's

my runner mate maintains that if it's above the chest, go for it, if it's IN the chest, wait and get better. I've not managed to try that out as when i get the lurgi, i just don't feel like doing anything.

EDIT: always consult a specialist.

I have done the training with Laryngitis before and ended up in bed for a week. Not a good idea.

Rather see the doctor, get some meds and rest for a few days.

Is it ever a good idea to do any form of exercise when one is not feeling well??

Yes - it is - when you have a hangover... sorts it out quickly.... :)

Hit it hard, strong meds, do absolutely nothing for five days. Plenty of time before 94.7. You'll see your resting heart rate drop dramatically when you are fine again. I was sick before Shova. Training just makes it last longer.

When your body needs to recover sleep and rest is your best friend along the right diet and meds if needed.

Putting your heart through the ringer while you're not feeling well can cause long term damage and can even be fatal in some cases.

Rather chill, you have 3 weeks till 947, so you won't have massive gains in fitness anyway, rather rest and get over the laryngitis and start 947 healthy and rested but maybe slightly, than train and end up starting not 100% healthy...
