I think the French might actually try and stop Froome from TDF. I think giving Bradet a shot at the Tour and having a French winner far outweighs having Froome there.

 I agree. I think the organizers want a new winner even if he's not French!

You laugh, but thats exactly why I think they kicked Sags, was to give that French dude a shot at the green... forgot his name now, like I do most French riders. :P

Also, French guy at head of UCI now for whatever that's worth. As they say, just because you're paranoid, doesn't mean they're NOT after you

Would really suck for fans of the sport if this were true. Let's hope not hey.

Some might call this speculation  :ph34r:  :P

If you are poorly prepared, you will never perform properly.....  it never fails to astound me how people believe you can cram a years work into a week... and how poorly people understand how to study to be most effective.

Rather speak to a psychiatrist who knows better than me how to approach it properly - Ritalin is one of the many drugs I have never written a script for - viagra is another.... well outside my scope of practice.

Like Lance... prepare properly..... in every possible way.

Haha! I already have my degrees. Just genuinely interest. Always wondered how it works.

The one thing I DO know - assuming normal clearance rates and hydration levels, any person who takes enough inhaled salbutamol to approach those levels is going to feel terrible as a result of the side effects - look at the effects in one of the studies I published - and those are with small doses of inhaled..... imagine going 8 or 16 times that.....

Why is there a maximum limit if you are a asthma sufferer with a TUE, and as you said, even making you feel terrible as a result of side effects if you use more than prescribed, it's obvious there's no gain in using more?

...page 4 of 10..

S3 BETA-2 AGONISTS

All selective and non-selective beta-2 agonists, including all optical isomers, are prohibited.

Including, but not limited to:

Fenoterol;

Formoterol;

Higenamine;

Indacaterol;

Olodaterol;

Procaterol;

Reproterol;

Salbutamol;

Salmeterol;

Terbutaline;

Tulobuterol;

Vilanterol.

Except:

• Inhaled salbutamol: maximum 1600 micrograms over 24 hours in divided doses not to exceed 800 micrograms over 12 hours starting from any dose;

• Inhaled formoterol: maximum delivered dose of 54 micrograms over 24 hours;

• Inhaled salmeterol: maximum 200 micrograms over 24 hours.

The presence in urine of salbutamol in excess of 1000 ng/mL or formoterol in excess of 40 ng/mL is not consistent with therapeutic use of the substance and will be considered as an Adverse Analytical Finding (AAF) unless the Athlete proves, through a controlled pharmacokinetic study, that the abnormal result was the consequence of a therapeutic dose (by inhalation) up to the maximum dose indicated above.

Edit:

In 2010, WADA changed the rules regarding the use of salbutamol, decreeing that the substance no longer required a TUE but rather a simple declaration of its use.

It's basically methamphetamine aka speed.... a stimulant - definitely not something you want to take unless you have a specific clinical need - and it is addictive.

Plenty of articles on how it works available - google professional will get you to something useful if you look

There is a dosage that is regarded as the maximum clinical safe dosage - and the rules allow that dosage - BUT - if you actually need more than that, then certainly salbutamol is not the right clinical treatment - then other drugs are more appropriate (although many of them are banned outright)

The problem with asthma management in athletes (from a medical standpoint anyway) is that athletes themselves prevent the use of the most appropriate clinical treatment because they want to stay within the anti drug rules - but medically, they should be treated more appropriately  than with just salbutamol, so this might require a TUE (which are drug specific) and may or may not be granted - so treatment is compromised until they stop competing.

I did think last night that possibly one of the reasons Sky/UCI are taking so long is because they want to use a grand tour as a laboratory....

The use of salbutamol as a masking agent needs to be discussed. The asthma excuse appears to be a bit of a distraction.

The is also a study using salbutamol, published in the BMJ, that shows an increased cardiac output in normal healthy patients.

Searched for the article and think it's this link, way above my head,,,

If you watch what A.S.O. get up to in the Dakar what you are saying makes complete sense.

All I remember about their hopeful was that he sucked and got cleaned up by everyone.
