Yes but this year all we have heard about from Team DD is Cav and LM - so its great someone who I didn't even know was on the team is winning GT stages in spectacular fashion, even if its a solo effort.

Remains to be see if LM can deliver GT GC results - I am not holding my breath, but good luck and all the best to him. Dedicating the whole team to support him in the hope he will?... not sure about that.

Cav ... tried to do too much in 2016 and its been downhill since then. Doubt he will come back. Just my opinion. And there is a lot of hype about him, and so there should be at his price.

Definitely a tem win, and great news for DDD.

I was thinking more whether the team have redeemed themselves, or whether he has redeemed the team?

(which is what I thought the original question was)

Depending on whether you view this as a team win (DDD) or a rider win (BK).....

Would BK have achieved the same regardless of which team he was on?

The same applies to any other rider who wins, no?

The record books will reflect that Ben King from Team Dimension Data won the stage, no notations about if's but's or another team.

You mean higher than finishing in 8th overall (2nd youth) TWICE at the TdF and 12th at the Vuelta by the age of 26?

Sure his form hasn't been great in 2018 but  you're a hard task master!

Cav still has mononuceosis.

Add to that that LM actually has a better GT CV than Porte, at the moment.

One way to look at it is, could he have done it without the team?

Yes he did the hard work on the day, but there is a lot more to it than that.

Did DD actually have to redeem themselves?

I don’t think so

It's a tricky business with current expectations going on past results - just look at TJ van America, TdF white jersey, top ten ...

Man i wish the L Man would make showing - but that whole shabang with that other team did not end well, I put that down to an opportunistic agent. So they brought him back to Team DD in the hope that they could pick up where they left off, but things are never the same are they?

I'm willing to give the man one bad year - if next year is the same as this year then you and I will be on the same page...

Don't be that typical Springbok supporter :-)

No worries, I was just addressing the "redemption" question.

In the team rankings at Le Tour this year DDD came 21st out of 22 teams - 5hrs and 56 mins behind the lead team, Movistar. Not a good year, but remember last year? Some terrific riding!

So far in the Vuelta they've done really well. Hopefully there will be a few more highlights for them. Problem is, every highlight sets the bar and our expectations that bit higher . . .

Let's see how the rest of the race goes :-)

The big DDD question that needs to be asked is "what the hell has happened to Stephen Cummings?".

Stellar 2016, average 2017 and a 2018 with very few results out of the triple figure category!!

That is the funniest thing I've heard all day. Gold.

It's true though.... Porte is yet to finish a GT as a leader...

If Bauke Mollema can bounce back from where his form went to, I'm pretty sure the Cheese has a chance

I still believe that wasn't neccesarily a wrong decision to move away. DD's focus was clearly on Cav and sprint trains so he was never going to get the attention he deserves. Experience on a solid European team is also worth its weight in gold.

And yes, Ben King just saved what has been a dismal season by their own standards. Granted, they've been unlucky given all their injury and illness woes.

I read somewhere that he had some issues with allergies and were off the bike for most of the run up to the Tour. He also had to fill gaps in rosters where non-european riders had visa issues which messed with his racing calender.
