Can Uber Drivers see us Cyclist?

To my fellow cyclists out on our roads daily. I am concerned for your safety as well as mine.

Every time, with out fail, in fact our group has started joking about it already and counting the amount of times we missed "near death" all thanks to an Uber driver.

  • They stop anywhere along the road to drop off, collect or just sight seeing.
  • They simply just turn into traffic any where and any time
  • They open their doors to collect or drop off customers...without warning.

They don't apologize, they don't even care!

So i ask this question!

Do they know people cycle and do their side and or rear view mirrors block us out?

How do we know it's an Uber driver and not just some random person dropping/fetching their friend?

Skuze my ignorance but how does one know it's an Uber driver.

Is there identification on the vehicle - if so then I've never seen an uber driver?

Easy to spot...they usually have a phone stuck to their dash with the uber driver app open ....sometimes a passenger in front or at the back..cars are etios..polo. ..that small chevy...avanza or hondas. .....????

I have never been murdered by a murderer in SA, so there is no murder issue in SA.

I have seen people in the streets who have been murdered ... have not seen an Uber driver doing as noted by the OP yet. .. not saying it does not happen, just not an epidemic.

Open the app, check all the near by ubers. Check the type of cars out and you'll then realise you actually seeing them a lot. They also have little spots under trees that they like to park off at. I work at O R tambo and of course there a lot of ubers booked from the airport but they can't park by the terminal so they park a few kms away on the side of the road. Must be 20/30 of them on a daily basis. I have to ride passed them on my commute home and it stinks of piss and there is fast food containers all over the place. From time to time the metro cops chase them away but a few days later they back. Nissan Almera, Audi A4 and Toyota yaris/corolla are the common ones here.

Its a mischievous jibe at my fellow cyclists, in an attempt to make it obvious that the Tweet is not to be taken seriously.

It's time to admit you only really hate the sound of their knobblies on tar as they pass you. Bloody awful racket, I admit.

To be honest when being run off the road by a car the last thing on my mind is to check what app is open on the drivers phone...

I have used Uber a number of times and so far the drivers have been very cautious.

I have had far more near death experiences from tannies driving SUV's that cost more than an entry level flat yet don't seem to come with factory fitted bluetooth. Then my favorite is people driving and talking on the phone with it up in front their face while talking.

i still dont get this...if you doing something illegal...rather hide the phone at your ear with your hand over it and make sure your widows are tinted.

a tip...if you gona text while driving at night...at least dim the screen otherwise everyone around you can see for miles that you are texting.
