got to say,

It is really disappointing that we are effectively the marathon MTB racing capital of the world,

yet we can't get a single rider in the top10.

Bunch of euros come from the middle of winter and clean up our locals.

well if they want to compare it to the TdF, well then it really works in this sense. We're also waiting for the next Fignon to arrive on the scene

We watched in person under the oaks near the dam near the Newlands Forrest picnic area. Arrived as Anika and Kate came flying past. Caught up with the live stream in the evening. Saw the top men's teams belting along. I had my money on Nino and co but he let me down.  Coverage seems better than last year. Maybe they have realized we don't all have DSTV?

I have never witnessed the massive skills deficit some riders suffer from first hand before. The track where we were watching is probably a green/blue (very barely blue if at all) and yet some riders were riding it as if it was a double black. I am not talking simply taking care - more like barely making it at all. Some were clearly so scared of falling they actually increased the risk of doing just that by riding so slowly they hung up on everything. That and the rear brake only skidding that was also in evidence. Its really not that hard to skill up to a level where you can ride a few rocks and corners in a way that at least approximates the pro's.

I got my timing just right today...

Logged on to the cape-epic website to see how things were going and there was 3km to go for the leaders so I watched the live streaming on the site. It ran flawlessly and I saw the top 10 finish.

Nice one!

Some 'epic' sporting events, like the Volvo Round the World Ocean Race, have no prize money, its about the prestige.

But I agree here, with all these fat a$$ entrance fees and big buck sponsorship  it should be better.

Schurter and Matthias 21 minutes down

24 overall in GC

Stirneman apparently suffering from a stomach bug, not able to keep any food down.

did you hear what Fumic said yesterday in his interview.

Nino struggled a bit at the Worlds, which is strong point. He said he thinks its gonna be a tough year for Nino, this seems to be the case

Unfortunate

Hopefully he can recover and they can go for a few stage wins.

Yip, still a long way to go but reckon 21 minutes is a bit much to defend the title.
