I use the Garmin edge 25 for Mtbing and more than pleased with it it goes for around R2600  including the  HRM chest strap....the  best price  around if you have a momentum multiplier  is on gold its just on R2200 inc delivery.

it simple to use links easily to gamin connect and Strava.

Seconding the Edge 25 suggestion. Does everything I want it to do and I like how small it is. I'd be very self conscious with something strapped to my bike that's bigger than my cellphone...

Hi fellow Hubbers,

I'm in the market for a cycling computer my budget is around R 3500.00

What can I get and what would you prefer?

Just add a few rond to your budget and get the Garmin 520....thank everyone later!

R 2600 for the Edge 25 BUNDLE - https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/computers/garmin-edge-25.html

without the "bundle" you will end up spending another R1k ... :(

The 520 is a "bit" more ....

R5000 for the "Edge 520" ... https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/computers/garmin-edge-520-gps-bike-computer.html

but you WANT the bundle !!

So you are looking at R 5 700 - https://www.evobikes.co.za/components/computers/garmin-edge-520-gps.html

Price is just one part of it though ....

WHAT do YOU want to see/get from the computer ???

For my COMMUTE a cheap Polar watch does the job, I download the data and have a record of my progress ..... that said, pretty useless while riding .... cant use it on my arm, as I have to remove my hand from the handle bars to see the screen - way too dangerous while commuting !  The selection of data on one screen does not work for me.  The watch is now on a handlebar clamp.  At least I can see my distance, speed and heart rate ....

When I am out on a trail I use the 520 bundle.  You can customise the screen to show what YOU want to monitor ....  It is large enough to read the data.  I like seeing my cadence and heart rate .... I "see" here before my body shuts down, so I can adjust my gearing and riding to conserve energy, and keep going for longer. :)

I cant do this with the 25 :(

Play around on Evobikes site, or any other online site, there are MANY alternatives ....

All this said - are you linking this to your medical aid rewards program ???  Make SURE you buy a unit that they approve ....

I see the Lezyne gps computers get good reviews. Some rate them better than the Garmin Edge25 and has all the basics you really need excluding power.

Data gets transferred from the unit to the Lezyne app on your phone and from there onto Strava.

The micro is about plus minus R1500 and the big one is plus minus R2500.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with the 520. The live strava segments has turned my solo rides into something else. Sometimes I look forward to riding solo, so that it's just me and my 520
