Greetings everyone,

I am looking for the person/s who assisted me at the scene last Sunday 25th Feb at around 14h15 on the Noordhoek side of Chapman's Peak drive.

Someone must have called an ambulance and waited with me until the emergency services arrived and I owe that person or persons a serious debt of gratitude.

Please contact me if you are that person or you may know who they might be.

I am eternally grateful to you whoever you are.

Cheers

Ian

Now that a few days has passed, care to give us more info on the incident / accident, and your current condition?

I trust that you were not too seriously injured, and well on your path of recovery.

I was descending a section of Chappies at a rapid pace when a car (new model, metallic bronze, E-Class Merc) ahead of me stopped suddenly, car door flung open (and left open protruding into the road) an occupant ran into the middle of the road with cellphone aloft to take a picture of the view.

This left me a narrow gap to thread between her and the car door so I shouted at her to announce my rapidly oncoming presence.

She became aware of me at the last second, panicked and tried to run for the car effectively closing the gap and I collided with her.

That was my last recollection before the lights went out. Ambulance ride to Constantiaberg, discharged later that night

Thankfully nothing broken except for a Kask Mojito, which did its job. Multiple lacerations on face (no stitches) and a collection of roasties on lower back, one shoulder, both elbows, both knees and knuckles.

Still suffering the effects of the concussion and whiplash which feels worse then the road rash, cuts and bruises etc.

According to the paramedics, they were unaware of any other persons being injured upon their arrival so I assume the Merc and its occupants had already left the scene with their injured party.

As stated in my original post, I'm extremely grateful to whoever assisted me.

Sorry to hear. We were out there in the morning. Its crazy busy and motorists do all manner of stupid things. This must rank as one of the most stupid I've heard of however.

Thanks for filling in the blanks.

Glad you came away with only the injuries you described.

Saw again over the last few weekends how irresponsible both car drivers and cyclist can be on that stretch of road, especially now that the CTCT "silly season" is in full flight.

glad you came out "ok" ... that sounds like a horror story of note .. and I can only imagine seeing everything happening in slow-mo and not really being able to do anything about it.

Glad you survived what could have been a very bad accident.

A bike & rider hitting a woman at that speed must have caused her some damage!

standard SA driver attitude - stupidly cause accident - flee scene without giving a ****for who you hurt or the law

pleased you ok bro

Not saying the driver didn't leave the scene, but maybe given the concussion, the person in the car didn't actually leave, and helped both Ian and the woman to the hospital? Maybe check with the hospital to see if someone checked you in under their name?

This could have been tourists with a rental.

Don't always assume.

Doesn't the driver realise that the crappy photo her phone takes is no where near as good as something she can get off google. To risk multiple lives just for a photo she will instantly gooi on FB(probably while driving) is just so silly. Darwin award.

OP, Glad you ok. Hows the bike? I hope you find your hero.

Don't always assume.

It could also have been an alien like in MIB.

You shouldn't assume it was a tourist.

Do we always need to nit pick each others words? Rather try and understand what the others person is saying instead of trying to argue for the sake of it.

SA drivers generally have a sucky attitude towards cyclists, definitely worse than the general attitude that drivers have towards to cyclists in the countries where our tourists come from.
