Slowly, turn on kettle, contemplate existence, drink coffee, do no.2, get dressed and cycle to work...

Also distance of phone from bed decreases the chances of returning to bed by 10% per 1 meter

I set the alarm on my phone to wake me up , set it ten minutes earlier so that i can hit that snooze button at least once.

I stopped using songs as my alarm tone as it just made me hate that song after hearing it going off every morning and forcing me out of bed.............especially in winter.

.............especially in winter.

Oh bollocks to winter, that’s a whole different kettle of fish.

It’s not even like I can sleep past 6;30am in my house anyway, it’s the gettting up part.

Think I should be just dandy in uk ( comic sans )

Option 1 for me

Option 2 for my wife

Yes it creates tension for both of us.

Then throw in our 3 year older daughter waking up with the birds, chaos!

My daughter is 6 and my son is 3. Toddlers are up at the crack of dawn whether you like it or not. Sometimes I think being nocturnal is hereditary. My mom is the same. I would sleep till noon if nobody woke me. But my wife has been an early bird since I met her. So I get to sleep in on weekends. I use to do the early Sunday ride religiously. But these days I just sleep in. Opting for an afternoon out on the bike instead. Whether I have company or not. Its lekker to ride if you well rested. But, that's not to say that I won't get up early for a ride. If a bunch of friends plan an early ride together I would join. Especially for spots that require a bit of a drive. Like shuttle days in Paarl, or long rides at Jonkers etc.

There are two main schools of thought . . .

1) Set the alarm for the time you HAVE to get up, and when the alarm goes off - GET UP.

Pros: This gives you the MAX amount of sleep possible in the time allowed.

Cons: Can be a bit harsh first thing!

2) Set the alarm for a period of time BEFORE you have to get up, and enjoy the "Lay-in" before getting up.

Pros: You get to lay in before deciding to get up.

Cons: The Lay-in deprives you of some time you could have spent actually asleep.

Which works for you?

Wake up to a caffeine nutrient iv vaccine

I am up early no matter what. Sometimes I only get an hour or 2 sleep and am still able to function that day. Othertimes I go for ride after only sleeping for 2 hours.

I just cannot sleep late, or sleep during the day.

I have trouble getting up in the mornings and is the reason I've not cycled in yonks. What does work for me though is to set an alarm, put it in my cycling shoe, put the shoe on my bike saddle and put my cycling kit over that. By the time I've gotten to my phone, I'm sorta almost awake

Very interesting responses.

Maybe you guys that are quite dedicated in getting up can help.

I struggle like you have no idea to wake up in the morning. I set about 6 alarms, with 10 minute intervals between them because it is very common for my to physically SLEEP straight through an alarm without it waking me up! I am an extremely deep sleeper (A gunshot has literally gone off next to me without me waking up before)

What can I do to wake up better?

My preferred method is with a cup of coffee and a BJ but sadly that happens very seldom, it's normally just the alarm and a reality check.

I also prefer my eggs to be lightly scratched with a long nail, but on most days I'll settle for scrambled on toast.

I love the 5 mins after snoozing my alarm, but then I get up after it goes off.

Between a toddler, a dog that NEEDS to go outside and a coffee machine that needs to warm up I have enough routine that needs no thought that my system has fully booted up by the time my wife managed to extricate herself from the bedding that she has become one with.

I put my alarm in the kitchen and I HAVE to get up to kill it or the wife kills me. Easy. Granted then I sometimes get back into bed, but that is then a conscious decision.

When you get older it seems to be easier to wake up and get out of bed straight away.

In my 20'S I could sleep through anything. Since the kids have been around I'm a very light sleeper
