No Talk about Clint Hendricks

Henry beating a Brownlee in a top class field was an outstanding achievement, Simbane beating Blake in a top class field was an outstanding achievement.

Clint getting bronze against a field that barely had a handful of people in the UCI top 200 was a good result against a decent field.

Edit: Not a single rider at the commonwealth was good enough to make the START the Amstel Gold....

dunno, looks like australia sent a decent team.

uh mean definitely not their best team, but Haymen, Docker, Meyer, Edmondson are all decent world tour riders, even if their no name brand Hoff won it in the end

Its good for achievements to be celebrated. There are full articles on people winning local events like the Cradle Cruise, so when someone wins a bronze in a global event it should be acknowledged by "cycling fans"... also consider he was up against a whole NZ team in that final stretch, I think No1, No2 & Clint deserve a big thumbs up for keeping them out of the medals.
As for Hatherly... his performance was special given his 2 broken bokes 8 weeks ago... also very well done.

Sooo - based on points the UCI reckons winning the Commonwealth Games is the same as coming 4th/5th at Paris Roubaix.

Points for PR are: 500 for first then 400, 325, 275 and 225.

Points for CWG are: 250 for first then 200, 150, 125 and 100.

While I don't agree with the points allocation and still think the talent depth was pretty shallow at CWG I officially change my stance from "good result" to "well done Clint".

The upside is that Clint rocketed 837 places up to 462 overall on the UCI rankings. This puts him ahead of the two Van Rensburgs, De Bod, Hoffman, Gibbons and Willie Smit.

I guess that makes me wrong

You go to a race and race who's there. Medalling in the race......well done. Great achievement. The fact is, there were guys from pro-continental teams, and some World Tour riders. The Aus World Tour riders actually supported the non-world tour winner. Taken in context, Clint races 100km's once a week against local opposition for a local pro team. Given that, this is a massive achievement for him. Give credit where credit is due.

As for Hatherly, he hung with, and was beaten by 20 seconds by a guy, who 3 weeks previously had beaten Nino Shurter at a World Cup race.  And this after breaking both his wrists 8 weeks prior to that. Great result !!

Spin this debate all you want, Cupcakes.

Wearing a hard-earned medal with the national flag on your chest.

Whether bowls or road racing or pole vault.

My word. What an honour.

What a lifetime achievement.

I still don't agree with the UCI though - given the choice between having a CWG gold medal or 5th place at PR I'd choose 5th place at PR every time!

[Exactly and that's what I think the OP is trying to say why is there no mention of him getting bronze at CWG,]

  • "Heyns, Du Toit crowned Winelands Encounter champs"  is a headline article on Bikehub but no mention of Hendrick's bronze medal in the CWG....

Are we allowed to talk about Clint yet?

So when is he going to sign with a world tour team and leave the local racing to us plebs... About time he gets a call up. Maybe DiData can pull another up? Surely if the points are there then SOMEONE has to be interested? Or is he too old at 26? doubt it...

SJOE! the amount of hate in this country.... aren't we all fun riders here? Support green, and rather add to the positive and rather give all this power many you have here to negativity and rather put all that effort to lift cycling in South Africa in the many areas we are lacking...if any one one of you was in that race and was able to pip for that line would you push brakes? and say no this is below me? hahahah I will not bring a medal to my country??? and like many have said here look at the headlines its so so sad that nothing yet...out of the 100 (correct me here) Africans that went we brought home 1 for cycling GEEZ!
