I have been using a Powercal strap for about 3 years now .

I find it is an excellent gauge to use .

DC Rainmaker's comparison showed it to be about 5-7% out vs a Powertap Hub .

This is of no concern to me . I use the same device for all my rides and so my only comparison is me .

I have found it to be very similar to the power on my Tacx trainer .

I also ride MTB , road and tandem so can use it for all circumstances .

GOOD VALUE for your money .

I use one - as DC Rainmaker says for dedicated interval sessions it may not be ideal or accurate as a direct measure power meter...

As a decent gauge of average power it is perfect and cost effective.

I have one and can't stand the thing.

It's forever spiking.

HR spikes which then makes the power number spike.

Probably ok as a guide (avg power, TSS score) but for specific stuff I don't like it.

THIS... and the HR  spike does not always correlate to effort, seems to be some other external factors...

how much are you willing to let it go for?

Being using it for 2 years. It's great to look at average power, normalised power and even a 3 min average. Found it pretty accurate compared to my Tacx trainer and Stages on my road bike. It cannot be used for specific targeted zones or intervals as variations just to big over a short period. For 15 minute intervals its ok but not shorter stuff

I started using my Powercal again (last weekend) as an HR strap. As I have two devices, I am able to record the power onto my FR310XT (stem mounted), while recording power from my 4iiii PM on FR735XT (with wrist-based HR).

I will collect data over the next few weeks and show a comparison between the two. It’s too early to jump to conclusions after one ride (especially as the average was way out).

The way I understand fitness/power is that as you get fitter you’re HR is lower for the same power; your speed is then also higher. How does the powercal show improvement in fitness and power as the power rises with a higher HR?

I'm fairly fit at the moment.

HR is the same only difference is the recovery ie from high HR to normal happens a lot quicker after intervals than previously
