Were they not also generally used together with those short lived 'rapid rise' rear derailleurs that needed brain re-programming to master?

Gripshift in general, or this specific model ?

I think grip shifters are the best thing since silicone implants !!

No pushing and prodding for gears, just grip and rip

But that first time shifting up on an uphill though.....

Never used to think about the shifting, just shifted and moved along ..... now though I am a big fan of the robust feeling shifts with SRAM

The brake levers were also your shift lever.Grabbed a handful of brakes when i was shifting to my granny gear and went flying over the bars.

Dual control = mtb

Sti = road bike

I loved my low-nornal xtr derailleur. Once I got used to it found it made a lot more sense.

anything with a seat angle less than 75 degrees, or when the actual seat angle makes the seat disappear over the rear axle when you extend the dropper

35mm handlebar standard

fork crowns

I also preferred that, wish they still made that option.

Not so much a problem now, thank goodness for brake tech evolving, but backpedal brake on one of my childhood bikes. How many times I had to jump off or drive(crash) into something just to stop when flying down a steep tar road when the chain comes off.

And whoever decided that new bicycles must have the front brake lever on the left side of handle bar.... #completidjit

Agreed. Keep it consistent with moto where right lever is front brake. Been setting my bikes up moto because I rode moto x in high school and didn't wanna see my ass because the right lever doesn't do the same thing on both the bike and moto.

poor design = being left handed :P

bad jokes aside, my wife and her brother are left handed too.

My older lightie is left handed. I've resigned myself to having to buy left handed cricket bats, tennis and squash racquets, bicycles, scooters, cutlery and stationery.

from a design perspective, this is actually one of the better ones around. Most other companies have followed in their footsteps, and while it's true that the OS and functionality has lagged in recent iterations (decidedly NON Steve Jobs-esque) it's an iconic and brilliant design.

fanboy :P

I see what you did there

Its like going to the hardware store for nails and they only have nails for "right side" walls
