I AM NOT AGAINST VACINATIONS !!!

Only some needless ones that have been proven to cause issues like the flu one.

For sure....but once you see what GBS does I think you might reconsider.......

Wheelchair vs snotty nose?

I respect the meaningful way you are engaging with this despite the obvious personal tragedy. It is a rare and valued approach.

However, flu is not just a snotty nose, it was the cause of the biggest pandemic in human history killing between 50m an 100m people in 1918, hence the public health concerns around flu.

Had H1N1 influenza been transmitted at that time, the small apparent risk of GBS from immunization would have been eclipsed by the obvious immediate benefit of vaccine-induced protection against swine flu. However, in December 1976, with >40 million persons immunized and no evidence of H1N1 transmission, federal health officials decided that the possibility of an association of GBS with the vaccine, however small, necessitated stopping immunization, at least until the issue could be explored. A moratorium on the use of the influenza vaccines was announced on December 16; it effectively ended NIIP of 1976. Four days later the New York Times published an op-ed article that began by asserting, "Misunderstandings and misconceptions... have marked Government ... during the last eight years," attributing NIIP and its consequences to "political expediency" and "the self interest of government health bureaucracy" (7). These simple and sinister innuendos had traction, as did 2 epithets used in the article to describe the program, "debacle" in the text and "Swine Flu Fiasco" in the title.

its not just that though is it?

Snotty nose first, following by dry cough, muscle ache, time off the bike, anitibiotics, didn't work, so bronchitis, lung infections, time off work, depending on the strain its permanent hearing damage, antibiotics again, time off work, doctor and medicine bills for repeat visits, now you start building immunity to antibiotics, so they work less and you need them more regularly. it's a slippery slope.

Actually, maybe not too each their own.  This mindlessly obtuse antivax movement is starting to affect herd immunity across a number of diseases.

Herd immunity is the idea that if enough people get immunized against a disease, they'll create protection for even those who aren't vaccinated. This is important to protect those who can't get vaccinated, like immunocompromised children.

These poor kids are being exposed to pathogens from the anti-vax mob, and their lives are being imperiled needlessly.  And all this born out of the most obstinate and pigheaded ignorance.

I'm familiar with the concept and actually fully agree and endorse it, if it was practical. You can apparently get free vaccinations but some people still won't go and refuse to learn the facts. That can't be changed. So now what Patches posted earlier, let them sort themselves out of the gene pool while the rest of us do our best to endure and stay healthy.

That is not how herd immunity works - if enough people stop vaccinating then you and your children are at risk - there is no way for you to be safe when herd immunity disappears - whether you've vaccinated or not.

methinks it would be quite dangerous to ride anywhere NEAR this charming HENRY REED fellow.  I took a stroll across to the Krugersdorp Community Forum (which alleges to be governed by the rules posted above) to stumble on this little gem from HENRY
