I was most impressed by our ladies team, they really managed to stick to a set goal and the stronger riders shepherded the newer riders. The age gap between youngest and oldest was 40 years. Some have won the DC others had not gone below 8 hours before, I have never seen so many smiles at the end of a DC.

There is ladies report coming as well, but will encompass a bit of the lead up and vibe.

Wow man this event really does seem to generate a lot of excitement for 300 days of the year.

Just getting into a team seems to be 90% of the battle

We have the opposite problem - finding riders is 90% of the battle.

(Finding the right riders...)

Do you only ever look for powerhouses to tow the ladies around for 80% of the race?

That's where you're wrong. Riding the DC is only one half of our selection criteria. Sure, you need to be a decent bike rider, solid, strong, team player and blah blah blah...

We also have an additional selection criteria. You have to stay for the Saturday night festivities.

We're a team that exists for just over 6 hours. Many of us have never met until we see each other on the start line for the first time. We then race as hard as we can. And sometimes we do well. But the really fun part of the whole weekend is getting to know each other off the bike, and often to revel in the glory of the day's bike racing.

So no, we don't just look for powerhouses.

(And without giving too much of our strategy away, the powerhouses only look after the ladies for about 40% of the ride)

If you want to do well in the mix cat, you need to tow and shelter for 100% of the race.

As one of our riders said going up the second sister:

"If you're not blocking the wind or pushing a lady, you're not contributing. F*** off to the back"

Saturday night is the most fun part of the weekend!  I never understand why people go home after the race.  A faster team is all I am still missing

You only need 3 ladies over the finish line, the three ladies can lose 45 minutes at the first stop, 25 in the second, then haul ass to the end.

(This tactic may not work with the rule changes in 2019.)

There are some legitamate reasons we accept, birth of first child, your own wedding and a tinder date with a celebrity.

The best is when the next year fines evening rolls round and the person thinks we forgot about the previous years fines. Aaron took the first 3 fines this year for last years exorcism at the side of the road.

This year after getting a few of my own fines, the group rejected three fines which I nominated meaning I ended up having those three as well.  At least I was successful on the fourth attempt :P

I got fined for being too sweaty...the chicks in the team were too grossed out to hold onto my pocket.
