I got hit today...

On a long, open road, in the yellow lane... And a car going well over 80 managed to, thankfully, hit my right thigh with its wing mirror...

The most annoying thing? They were stopped by police further up, not for hitting me, but for driving erratically... So I sprinted up to them to ask what the hell, and met 4 coloured gentlemen, high as balls.... Worst thing? The police left before I got to them, and clearly let them continue to drive...

In hindsight, I should have started the ride later... I know early mornings in Cape Town are dangerous, and should know better. I should have taken the ******* keys and threw them over a fence instead of just standing there incredulously after his slurred response... I should have taken a licence plate...

But in the heat of it, all the stories flowed through my head instead, and I was just grateful i was barely brushed.. Im grateful that in 7 years of adult cycling, this is the only contact with vehicles I've had... I'm grateful to be writing this and grateful I got to finish a beautiful ride today...

Be careful when out there. No one cares about you.

I'm starting to reconsider road riding and stick to MTB. 2 cyclist got killed in the last 4 weeks in Edenvale both incidents happening within 300m on different days. Its like a war between cyclists and cars out there.

First off; very glad you escaped this encounter unscathed Joss !!I have a lot more adult years on a Roadbike than you and therefore have experienced the unfortunate demise of safety and respect on our roads firsthand and far too often. It has just become to hectic for me so i resorted to making myself as visable as possible so i could continue doing what i love ;Cycling.I ,for one, dont know the solution to our current appaling [to say the least] affairs on the Roads but since I invested in a top Brand of flashing rear and front lights I can honestly say things have changed for the better in my opinion.I will not ride without those lights;period.People definitely give me a wider berth which has resulted in me enjoying my cycling stint much more than before. It works for me; hope this helps.Be safe.

Mate, I was visible. I rode with a bright flashing serfas rear light, which was on and blinking nice and bright. I was wearing a loudmouth top which is honestly so ridiculously visible. My riding parter was wearing a yellow hi vis top too.

This man saw me. He was high. Off his balls high. He either didn't care, was playing a game to impress the pussy in the back seat, or was so goofed he didn't know where he was... I assume a combo of all three...

I was very visible. Can guarantee you that...

Sad thing is he didn't give a flying fvck that he almost ended your life.

OP - where did this happen?

Just to add my plus one to the chorus of pleased relief that this isn't a thread about another of our number killed by some thoughtless idiot.
