Antonov 225

The picture is from somewhere in Aus. I have flown in the Alliance Fokkers and the Rex Saab 340's - but alas not the 225.

One of the REX Saabs lost a prop in flight a year or two back due to metal fatigue on the shaft- that must have been exciting.

So it is that time of the year where my wife asked me what I wanted for my birthday.  Quite a few years ago my wife bought me a cast iron model of an Swiss A340 which parks here in front of my computer and looks pretty nice.  So I got the idea of maybe collecting a few of these nice looking models, concentrating on the aircraft and hopefully the airline of the aircraft I have flown in before at some point in time.  So she bought me this weekend a model of the Lufthansa A380.  This specific model was pretty pricey but bloody good detail (manufactured by Gemini Jets).  I noticed that althoug the Swiss is good looking model, the new Lufthansa is leaps better wrt to detail.  This brings me to my question to you.  Are there any of you out there that have some of these cast iron models and what brands would you recommend to look at?

I have several of these planes (15 I think) - currently in storage.

I miss looking at them :-(

WOW SonAir, now that is a blast from the past. I have worked on a few D2 registered aircraft but not theirs. Only TAAG. We sometimes have a SonAir B737 come here for service.

Sonair ja quite a large fleet they used to have, ranging from helicopters for oil rig work to a jumbo 747-400 (Huston express). And a couple of fancy private jets ala Falcon 900 and 7X to name a few

When the oil price went south about 5 or 6 years ago they started cost saving and reduced the size of their fleet

Ok that is interesting. They signed a contract with us a few years back for us to train all their apprentices. They guys came in small groups of like 2 or 3 at a time and joined up with our appy intakes and did their apprenticeships here. But I haven't seen any of their guys come here for a while so i guess it came to an end.

Sounds like a Siza Madiba plan....

Sonair top management have a lot of good intentions about becoming self sufficient, like a lot of things in Afrika the wheels tend to come off
