They're both about the same in terms of quality (not the best and not the worst). Also look at Academy (like the P47 I pictured here). The thing with these kits is fit of parts - they usually need more work on seams and gaps than Tamiya does.

They're also cheaper than Tamiya and Hasegawa (the best, unless you go for the more specialised multimedia kits and are prepared to sell a kidney).

Where are you based (or shopping)?

What he said.

Airfix back in the 80's was a lot closer to leading edge but I gather they dumbed themselves down a bit. The Japanese never let themselves go. I must admit in my day you could not get the Japanese, so I tended to stick to Airfix and Italeri.

Ps. I just remembered my other kit that turned out awesome - 1:48 Douglas Skyraider, in Vietnam COIN setup. Its a really good subject with loads of interesting detail - just a bit like a scaled up P-47.

I recently cleared out my bookcases because they were just too full. I sorted the books into piles to "donate", "keep" and "keep for ever to read again"

That last pile only amounted to a dozen or so books.

Catch 22 is one of them.

A few other books written by aviators ended up in the same pile: Roald Dahls' Over To You and Antoine De Saint Exuperys' Wind Sand and Stars.

Try download a copy of  "Flying in Africa" (Vol 1 and 2) by Jim Davis

A good local aviation book with lots of funny true stories

I'm in KZN.

The one local hobby shop doesn't seem to have much in stock in the way of Aeroplanes, so I was thinking of ordering from raru.co.za

If you DM me with your email address I'll try hook you up with the South African Scale Modellers trading forum on Facebook. It's a closed (or secret!) group, and they trade model kits between the members. Lots of great kits, and very good prices. And it's local, so cheap fast shipping. I'e sold a ton of stuff there in the past.

So my big boss has resigned. Another one that doesn't last. Makes big zar and ducks. I don't think he would have gotten the big golden handshake that the previous CEOs got as he pulled the trigger and was not asked to leave, but you never know. Wonder if vodacom will take him back?
Pity, I enjoyed seeing the Porsche Cayenne GTS, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8, Merc C63s and the Merc E63 cabrio parked in the corporate parking everyday.

I am rather concerned when I read that last night.  His reasons was for not getting the backing to get the turnaround strategy moving as he planned.  Was he too ambitous or did he have the cat by the tail and the board told him to take a jump.  Or is there simply no money to do the turnaround.  Either way, I would most propably not buy any SAA ticket well in advance at this stage.

Hahahahaaaa... So do you get to take over the parking bay in the meantime? Hahahaa

I thought he was at MTN previously, although I could be wrong. Anyway, hang in there mate, there’ll surely be a long list of takers lined up to fill that office soon ;-)

I am waaaaaay to far down the pecking order to get that spot.

Previously every time we got rid of a CEO, Nico Bezuidenhout(Mango CEO) acted and that oke knows what he is doing. Things look good for a while and then they appoint someone. The last few appointed guys have all been from outside of the aviation business so they were new names to us.

You not the only one concerned. A few months back, He got to work the one day and announced he was resigning. A few hours later, Pravin Gordan rocked up here and spoke him out of it. So the writing was on the wall. He was the first non politically appointed guy for a while(the previous few all had ANC ties) and from the get go there was issues between him and the board. There is money, this country has a lot of it, the problem supposedly lies with the fact that the state just want a puppet as CEO and he was actually trying.

I've always loved the look of the 747 . . . this video has some nice footage of various pilots putting the Queen of the Skies down on the tarmac pretty "firmly".

I understand that wind-shear is a reason why they "stick" them down so firmly, and OR Tambo is known for this?

Maybe Spokey can comment on that?
