Ramrod Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I've only had a few times where it didn't work and I use it everytime, I make sure that I hear the notification on my phone and see the 'Livetrack Started' message on my 820 once I've pressed start and only then do I ride off. The few times it didn't I go into GC on the phone switch auto start off and start it manually. My wife would phone me if she knew I was out and had not received an e-mail with the tracking link ....I have tried this as well but this past Sunday I saw it start and after about 45min I saw it say Live Track ended while I was riding. 45 min into a 3 hour ride didn't give the wife much security!
Schnavel Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Also gave up with the livetrack feature - caused more grief than anything else. As mentioned previously, Whatsapp live track works pretty well - I can share my location and it updates as I go along. Touch wood, never had any issues with it!
warrencharlesza Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Doesn't the live tracking feature of WhatsApp kill your battery life? never had issues, mostly start rides with high 90% battery life. Weekends I do 4 hours and get back with 60-70%. Not sure on data usage
Mailman7412 Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Best advice I can gice all is rollback Garmin Connect Mobile to Ver 4.8.Livetrack never really worked after that
Grey Hubs Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Yip, tried the last 2 or 3 rides...can't get Live Track on Garmin Connect to work anymore...Not sure what has changed. Tried all the setting I can.
DieselnDust Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Garmin becomes more useless with every software update. I stopped using live track and got a spot gen 3 at w2w.If I had known about the WhatsApp live location I'd probably have saved myself a bundle!!
lechatnoir Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 whatsapp live location. I gave up on livetrack a mate and i tried whatsapp live position, and tried to track my mate, and his position was an hour out-of-date(time), and he struggled with mine too.
Schnavel Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 a mate and i tried whatsapp live position, and tried to track my mate, and his position was an hour out-of-date(time), and he struggled with mine too. As with all of these tracking methods, good cell phone reception is required unfortunately.
mecheng89 Posted January 8, 2019 Author Posted January 8, 2019 Happy to see I'm not the only person who has faced this. Guess WA Live is the way to go. Thanks!
GaryvdM Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Livetrack use to work well for me, but of late it has been very unreliable.WA tracking is a good option. Very simple to get setup.

keithbe Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 I can honestly say livetrack works perfectly on my 935 and for the bit using an edge 130. +6 months. Paired with Samsung S8.
The Ouzo Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 have been using it on my edge 130 paired to iPhone 6s for about 2 months now.Cant say I've had any issues.A couple of times the wife and kids have been coming out of the yard to greet me as I was coming down the road. What I do make sure of is that Garmin Connect is started on the phone before i leave.
Odinson Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Will have to show my wife this thread. She didn't believe me when I told her LiveTrack bugged out when it showed I was at a dodgy stripjoint for 2 hours, when I was obviously out on the trails pedaling my nuts off.
Ramrod Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 Livetrack use to work well for me, but of late it has been very unreliable. WA tracking is a good option. Very simple to get setup. This is true. I am only having issues of late. Wife and kids were able to track me through the whole of J2C this year!
Dubber Posted January 8, 2019 Posted January 8, 2019 On the whole mine has been pretty good - but I did have the odd issue here and there. At one point when I was having general issues with my 810, I cleared out all my old rides and offline maps from my device. The garmin as a whole functioned a lot better after this. Although not specific to LiveTrack, its worth giving a go. Also, LiveTrack is dependent on cell signal. I guess if you are in an area without cell signal, the process may fall over? Never investigated this, so just guessing. Would be a design flaw if this was the case...
