Best to be self reliant - I remember some bananas, a bit of biltong and some baby spuds. There were oranges too and do I remember wolfing down more than my share of watermelon?

They were adequate I seem to remember.

looking like I'll be seriously undercooked come the 13th April. starting to worry a tad, but the entry's entered, tyres fitted... nothing to do but start I guess.

any ideas on what the feed stations will have on offer? by that I mean, what will be left at the feed stations when I get there late?

You said bananas and I read BRANNAS!!!!!  :D

My first 100miler and doing it as prep for Transbaviaans later this year, just to break that mental thing of doing the distance.

From what I've heard the second part of the race is the toughest (hills) so I will pace myself for the first half and leave some juice in the tank to finish strong......but then again I always find myself in a fast group which burns me out, so I will be at the back LOL

Any opinion on this vs the Cederberg 100 Miler? Would like to attempt this distance but find the easiest one first.

Cederberg is more elevation but the profile looks slightly better.

Looks like you get a "free" ride from about 120km?

Amarider looks like you climb from 80ish to 150ish. Seem like it would be more difficult.

All these events are how difficult you make them.

If you go hard, you going to die.  if you take it easy, event will be easy.   You have to be very disciplined in first 100km, its very easy to get sucked into staying with the group.

Know what you can do all day (normally z2, mine is z3) , stick with this pace for first 100km, then up it to z3 and see how goes. Yes, its might feel slow, but rather slow and finish than cramping/dieing in back of recovery van.

Stop at all the stops, fill up both bottles , grab a snack and get going immediately

I was told the Cederberg ride is unsuitable for gravel bikes due to the change in route, so it could be the terrain is rougher, potentially more tricky.

Whether this is true I don't know, but the road near Eselbank is getting worse and I think the route goes over that

^^^This is my game plan. All I can hope for is that there's enough entertainment for my loved ones while they wait for me. And that they don't get too lonely when everyone leaves before I arrive

I asked if there is jumping castles/anything for kids at the finish they said nope.

So wife said i go alone... No way in hell she's keeping kids entertained for 7 plus hours while waiting for me

I have never figured out how to pace myself specifically for climbs that comes 100km + into a race. I guess it's good to be mentally ready for what's ahead but don't see the point of specifically riding slower to save yourself for a climb at the end. If you get your pace wrong the first half (ie too fast) you will bonk badly late in the race whether there are climbs or not.

Im doing the 50miler. I dont want to use the shuttle again, my bike gets to damaged in transit. Any recommendations how to try and beat the seperate start and end locations on your own?

either you get someone to drop you off at the start or park at the start then catch a lift back to collect the car.

I won't have support on the day but would love to have a couple of peanut butter and banana sarmies later in the day to lift my spirits. I don't normally do this but I also don't normally enter 100milers so this is all new to me. How do you go about wrapping/packing your sarmies so that they aren't mush by the time you want to chow them? Do you perhaps eat them earlier rather than later?
