Rouxenator Posted April 12, 2019 Share Reading reviews of tyres with various sizes I recall a few of them stating that one manufacturers 2.25 could be another's 2.40. Personally I only found that out recently after fitting 2.25 Mitchelin Wild Racers this week. Previously I was able to easily ride with a 2.35 Maxxis Forekaster at the back but these Wild Racers have very aggressive side knobbies that (due to a slight bump) tends to run against the frame when pedaling hard. But fear not, as kid I learned you can fix (or f...k) anything using mom's kitchen scissors. So in this case I took the kitchen scissors without the wife seeing, and cured my frame rub problem. It was only the left side that rubbed due to the slight bump it had. Have a look at my handy work :

Gr3mlin131 Posted April 12, 2019 Share This really seems like a problem that would have solved itself given enough time. I am sure the tires will wear down quicker than the frame they were rubbing against. Rouxenator
dirtypot Posted April 12, 2019 Share This really seems like a problem that would have solved itself given enough time. I am sure the tires will wear down quicker than the frame they were rubbing against. But would you want to test that out? Rouxenator
Allrounder Posted April 12, 2019 Share Why did you not replace your tyres with that funny name one again? Can't remember what they were called, but they gave you good millage? Rouxenator
keithbe Posted April 12, 2019 Share I would have called "time for a new bike" rather than customise the tyres. DJR and Leon O

Rouxenator Posted April 12, 2019 Share Initially I thought of swapping the rear tyre for a Conti trail king that I have somewhere, or even a Crossmark. But the appeal of using the kitchen scissors and not getting my hands dirty with sealant - I could not resist. Remember, the kitchen is a wonderful place for bike stuff, like cleaning your helmet - in the dishwasher. The bike is nearing 23,000km so yeah, I would say give or take 27 more years of life in it. It is not only in braking where I use my middle finger - it's a way of life. NotSoBigBen Posted April 12, 2019 Share I'd be a lot more worried about riding it in mud with so little clearance even after the 'mod' .. now that'll wear a frame down!
