Can’t see LM win a grand tour but he could be a good domestique in the mountains

Don't know if I even rate him to be a super domestique in the mountains. There are plenty of better climbers out there

Ja he usually just hangs on the back of the supers and favourites until the first attack or increase in pace up the final climb when he makes his disappearing act - he never mixes it up with the rest - always that guy at the back.

like a commentary finisher  - "and just hanging on the back of the group TDD LM"

Maybe he's been taking lessons off Cummings. But without the winning part.

Bahrain merida looking a bit empty then.

They going to through money at the problem?

Not considering they had a McLaren Team Car for Nibali @ Giro TT...

Alot of very good riders coming off contract at the end of the season so I think Rod Ellingworth will have a few names in hand to kick start the team roster when he becomes team principle. Hopefully he'll kick out the dubious not-doping connection from eastern europe asap. word is that Landa is heading there. Rod and him have history, not sure if it's good history or not. You have think though if Sky couldn't his TT game up so he could challenge for top step of the GC then it's just not going to happen and he'll always be on the back foot.

Landa rumoured to be in the frame

Nibali just finished 2nd in the Giro

Carapaz was not seen as GC threat for MS it was Landa

GC hopefuls were marking Landa and each other

Carapaz got up the road and got time

If he never Nibali would of won

Nibali can still win at GT he is that good

Mollema is a super domestique with freedom at certain races

Cummings hasn't won anything since September 2017 at Toscana and any other results have been far from pleasing.

LM in 2017

8th Tour and 2nd white jersey.

12th Vuelta

8th Dauphine and 2nd white jersey

If we have put a winner on the person at the back since then, I am going with LM as an out right winner.

Appreciate that you have a lot more knowledge than most and respect all the stuff you share here with us back in SA.

But when was the last time LM actually won something like a stage? As far as I remember (and I could be wrong) it was 2015. That 2014 / 2015 delivered all this 4 professional wins. I agree he has potential, he’s still young but he’a been adorned with the mantle of GC rider with out actually crossing the line 1st. Steve O may not have won much since 2017 but he holds 2 more TdF stages for TDD, Tirrano and Dauphine stages for TDD, overall at tour of Britain, 17 career wins and a stage of Vuelta. Of course he’s not in the same class when it comes to consistency in GC over all but out of the 2 guys at the back TDD have got a decent ROI on the Cummings punt, more wins and coverage for sponsors and qhubeka.

Its 2 completely different riders with goals. LM has been a GC Tour rider in focus, not a stage hunter of sorts.

TDD got as much with LM and his GC overalls, 1st African, African Team, Top 10 etc. Top 10 at any 3 week Tour is massive.

Cummings got great coverage, I was at the Tour on the stage when he won, its was rad, but it was also rad having LM in the very very select group after doing Tourmalet, Hourquette, Azet and Peyresourde where Cummings was zig zagging up the last climb.

Each have done very well, its not always about a win as such but a result and what goes with it.

Essentially the most important aspect now is not how great result were 2 yrs ago, its what is happening now that those results are not there for the team??

I wonder if anything is going to happen for Richie...

I don't think it will be to much of a issue - Nibali is very patriotic to the Giro and Richie wants Tour success and overall calendars over the years have been different.

I do think it will light a cracker up both their asses which is never a bad thing.
