Yes I have done it numerous times over many years thinking it's not a big deal. But then you start noticing a cars driving erratically and every single time it's someone busy on their phones. Twice while cycling I have almost been taken out by drivers that was texting and driving - both times I was on the left in a very wide yellow lane yet the cars missed me by centimeters. The penny dropped for me few years back when I almost caused an accident waiting at a red light looking at my cell not realising my car is slowly rolling backwards... So to answer your question now I never ever handle my phone while driving. And with bluetooth in most cars nowadays there is no excuse to handle your phone to take calls. I would like to think that most hubbers here complaining about this also don't use their phones while driving - it is not particularly hard once you have made the mind shift not to do it.

I really don't think people realize how much damage a ton of metal can do to a pedestrian or cyclist even at 60kph.

Dear Sir/Lady I spend a LOT of time behind a steering wheel, all too often in peak traffic, but also regular longer distance trips. You can SEE the "texters" drifting over lanes, worse than a drunk driver. Ten years ago I have texted while driving, having seen how bad others drive while texting I have stopped touching my phone while driving !! Yes, I take and make many phone calls while driving, many days my car is my mobile office. BUT, I made sure to buy a car with the best possible phone-to-car interface. With my phone tethered to the radio, it reads out my text and WhatsApp messages over the speakers. I can take and make calls from the steering wheel. On those occasions when I have to text, I pull over before picking up my phone. WHY ? Simply because I see daily how "Texters" drive like drunk drivers, and I often have near misses as they drift into my lane !!

Dadbod Racing Posted July 22, 2019 Posted July 22, 2019 cause watching a video doesn't mean you're NOT running at full tilt , if you had a gripe with someone sitting in A machine while checking facebook and you want to use said machine then sure , maar kalmeer bietjie Didn't say I has a gripe with anyone checking their phones, I was asking WHY they are checking their phones. Surely it's just easier to chill on the couch at home and check FB? If that other chap stayed home to check his phone he would still be allowed in Virgin Active right now. :-)
