Tomasz Marczynski (Lotto Soudal), Dion Smith (Mitchelton-Scott), Louis Meintjes (Dimension Data), Matteo Fabbro (Katusha-Alpecin), Valerio Conti (UAE Team Emirates) and Ricardo Vilela (Burgos-BH) had joined the leading duo but the packs catches them after 40km.

Van Garderen abandons
13:43
Tejay Van Garderen (EF Education First) is the 9th rider to leave La Vuelta 19. He suffered a nasty crash yesterday.

You can forgive him this one after that nasty crash yesterday. EF have been slaughtered by one day in Spain. Unforgiving sport.

What  ride by Pogacar so far!

That stage on Sunday has the potential to be rad, or  wet squib.

I'm hoping for rad

Quintana was putting in the digs there and wearing down the group. How many attack was that. Good to see him racing aggressively in this Vuelta.

After being bashed as a wheelsucker and the most boring snorefest for ages, he is suddenly winning stages, throwing punches and looks exciting.

I am glad.... If he ends his career winning some polka jerseys and some big solo wins in the high mountains ala Purito I will be stoked. Or a Grand Tour or two... But I always loved Purito....

Maybe he feels more free now that his country has a new superstar. Less weight on his shoulders. Perhaps the fact that he is leaving Movistar and is not seen by management as the leader during this race also help.

All in all he just seems more "relaxed" and has a a bit of a spring in his step which is very good to see.

Today was *** hard - seriously the stage was next level.

Saw some stats that Bennett was 6.4 w/kg for an estimated 16 mins and lost a minute to the top 4 ????
