ugh, on my ride this morning had a few close encounters with bike breakfast runs and almost got hit by a uber going around a traffic circle AFTER indicating using hand gestures....hope he went to wash in the ocean...luckily my spidey senses saw it coming though. Problem is not seeing what the hell they do behind you...

There's a regular crew of motorbikes who tear along the Camps bay to Hout Bay route on weekends. A few weekends ago I saw one of their number collide with another moron in one of those hired out 2 seater faux vintage racing cars. 

 

I say moron because they tore up Suikerbossie at at least 120kmph on their way to their accident. 

 

Not long I fear before a cyclist gets mixed up in their compensation for micro phallus omnipotence fantasy.

 

Hope these two cyclists heal up.

I'm certainly not saying that this is the case (speeding) in this incident but in Magalies on a Sunday morning from 6am onwards the superbikes just blitz through here and the surrounding roads... to Harties and Koster....I think they know the cops can't stop them so they just carry on....When you are travelling at 200km+ there isn't much room for error....

The Harley Tractor Brigade are the worst though....they just sound like souped up John Deeres....!

Can't always blame the motorbikes though. This morning I saw a cyclist cross the road at the top of Suikerbossie and almost got taken out by a motorbike. I wouldn't say the biker was speeding so can only presume the cyclist just didn't look properly.

and the other side of the coin ....

 

Friend on a Harley used to ride that stretch often.  He had some choice words for the groups of cyclists owning the road .....

 

He would come around a blind bend to find 2 or 3 cyclists next to each other .... and this happened all too often.

 

 

Being on a cruiser he was never going that fast, and always managed to avoid the cyclists.

 

 

 

In a cruel twist of fate he T-boned a vehicle making an illegal U-turn after a blind turn .... Vehicle fled the scene and it was a group of cyclists that stopped and helped him, called the ambulance and waited until he was taken care of.  He was much more appreciative and tolerant of cyclists after that event ....

 

 

all said and done, cyclists and bikers are equally exposed out there ....

Did a bit on the tar today to get to and from the trails. The problem is not motorbikes, taxis or any specific vehicle, the problem is people's general disregard for other people's lives.

You see it in how people drive, red lights and stop signs have no meaning, blocking intersections because they feel they have waited long enough or it's their turn, indicators used at last minute if at all, never mind the speed limit.

It's getting worse every day because people see others getting away with it that they also start doing it and the snowball just continues.

We were having coffee at Phylidephia one morning after riding there. 

 

Motorcyclist comes up to my buddy and I, and asks us this.

 

"was it you that we just past on the road here?  3 of you riding? "

us "no it is just the 2 of us riding"

 

Idiot Motorcyclist. "we you know we came around the corner and there were these 3 cyclist riding side by and you know at 160+kph it is difficult for us to serve and avoid those idiots, they should know the law states that you can not ride side by side"
