Lol love how RB practically insinuates he got beaten by the heatwave instead of his competitors.

Its the same for everybody, difference being that the local boys know how hot it can get and pace themselves probably. He cant underestimate them

probably knowing he was going too hard too fast.

Ps: theres a saying in motorsport:

to finish first...first you must finish

also...see LM also scratched. wonder if he decided to call it a day when he got told he'd have to redo a huge chunk of the course if he wants to continue. ouch

is it against the rules to get a text or call that you are WAAAAYYYYY off course?not that i assume there is any signal in any case. How would the race organisers know? just asking for real. talking about LM in this instance

edit: AND - do they have to backtrack and get back on course where they left? in LM's case they are actually going the long way assuming they take a left in the not to distant future. AVD now too it seems.

Munga race have a long history of pick and choosing which rules to use and ignore.

And it looks like Nico Coetzee is in a vehicle, and that Graham Brooks took a wrong turning just before 1 this morning and has been putting in the miles off course since then.

Edit: I see that GB rode into Fauresmith about 10km after leaving the course. I wonder if it is sleep deprivation, or GPS issues, or what that led  him not to recognise that there shouldn't have been a town at that point of the race.

Don't really agree with you here. He's the record holder and would have been following his own race strategy.

He probably underestimated the effect of the heat, and if he was at all acclimatised from the Dutch winter to the Karoo hitte

So 14 scratched and it looks like NC and GB are out as well. AAs tracker has him all over the place so he might be out as well. That's more than 10% of the field gone and we still haven't finished a full day, it must have been brutal out there.

Edit: I see there are another 4 riders QO,WM, WV and KC in cars on their way to De Aar.

maybe lost in translation perhaps.

it's just the way he said it in his post.....of being 30 min ahead of the competition etc etc as in "i was murdering them and they weren't going to beat me but the heat beat me instead"

Another dot I'm following with great interest is MK, Madeleen Kotze. She's a local lady here from Paarl and she likes her endurance challenges. A few weeks ago she also completed an Everest attempt outside Gordonsbay. Currently still moving at 220km just before RV1. Wonder how long she'll stop there, the Cut-Off dot is not that far behind her group of riders.

It looks like a few people slept at the dam.

Things must have been chaos.

What are the stops like for you guys that have done this?
