I can't believe NTT waited until Nizzolo ditched before committing to the sprint. I take it Riis isn't at the Tour to tell them what to do?

Doug Ryder was interviewed on the Cycling Podcast, and said that Riis doesn’t know much about sprinting and is better at the GC tactics.

Who is calling the shots on the sprint stages then?

Shame the guy is overcome with emotion.

Yeah, I think most people would be. As WvA stated the TdF seems bigger than the sport. And Ireland has a strong concection with the TdF because of Kelly and Roche so it'll mean so much more for him because of that as well. This will be a very special moment in Sam's life!

No idea. They were the first to name their team, as they were going for stage wins... 10/21 completed and Eddie was their best return.

Quite true, on both counts

Yep people should forget this whole sprint jersey claim they make.. it isn't and hasn't been since before the Hushovd days...consistency is key of you want to win the green jersey.

That being said like I said he is looking much better..

Its a points category, somewhere along the line people started referring to it as the "sprinters jersey" but thats not what it is.

Their tactics are terrible they kill themselves at 15km to go and then dissappear..

Eddie B is good at positioning himself.. but few stages that really suit his strengths..

Sam will have to look at picking up max points tomorrow..few chances again till almost Paris then.. its going to get tough if he wants to win it he will have to either stop Sagan and Trentin going in breaks or go with them.

I heard there on eurosport that he's only the 98th person to win a tour stage... That's quite a phenomenal statistic I thought. That's like 1 new winner every year

Edit: correction..98th person to win a stage in all 3 grand tours.. That makes more sense

I'm willing to bet Irish cycling fans are going bos over Bennett's win today and I wouldn't blame them. A wonderful win for a wonderful athlete.

First things first. Fantastic news that the Tour can continue despite the spikes in infection in the broader French space. The biosecure environment, with the hard work of the organisers and the French government, has proven a massive success until now. The implications for the sport is tremendous. Let us hope it stays this way.

This is the new emerging world of professional sport. The biosecurity measures offers new and unprecedented challenges for the professionals as they cannot be with their loved ones or go out and explore. It is confinement that comes with tv games, card games and lots of solitude, of which some athletes will thrive and some will be desperate for social time. This is another layer of adjustment and stress for each team.

This win will mean a lot to Bennett, indeed, in his national jersey, especially after sniffing victory a few times this Tour. Persevering is one the big strengths of these pro athletes. Beautiful. Also, he's had a rough time last season with team selections mostly due to team politics and team dynamics. So, this will be a great affirmation for him, as expressed below to EuroSport:

"I thought I’d be in a flood of tears but I'm just in shock…. Sorry for crying, I don’t mean to be a cry baby. I just want to thank everyone involved in this, the whole team and Patrick [Lefevere] for giving me this opportunity and everyone it took to get to here, obviously my wife too and everyone around me."

Much better performance by Sagz Baby, considering he is not a pure sprinter like Bennett and Ewan. The rest day was good for him. Interestingly, he is on a joint record list for 22 runner up spots in Tour de France stages, I think alongside Robbie and someone else.

GC ladder stays the same. For now. Don't blink.
