Sunday while riding I had a terrible squeak, and discovered the main Pivot Bearing shot, so I have managed to buy some replacements from a car spares place, regreased them and popped them in. But while fitting everything back together I came across the front Brace (Arch) of forks snapped. (Must have happened when I went down an obstacle and the front tyre went pap, had to bail)
Anyway, is it just possible to get this welded up again from an aluminum welder? ... I cannot afford a whole new shock, I did browse the classifieds and almost died.

Thanks for any input.

Fork lowers tend to be made of magnesium which could be quite difficult to weld. Getting the alignment perfect might also prove to be a difficult task. Good luck!

You're not going to repair that I'm afraid, and you're looking at between R 3 500 and R 4k for a new lowers assembly if we can find you one that fits.

Someone will no doubt offer you a used one off a fork with worn stanchions - don't do it, the bushings will wear your stanchions out.

Your best option is either replacing lowers or finding a second hand fork, sadly.

Pratleys putty....winner....

And bad luck on the fork...there are some good videos on you tube of bike part failures...at least you didn't lose your face or teeth...!

If it's insured they should take care of it without much hassle

Lowers can be purchased separately. I suspect it will need new bushes too. Check the stanchions inside the leg. If they're scored then get a new fork

New lowers come with new bushes installed

And Rockshox fork bushes can't be replaced (or at least aren't available anywhere in the world)

A lot of guys are punting insurance, I dont know how in todays climate guys can afford the insurance for bikes.

Can you afford to go buy your bike for its retail value tomorrow if it got stolen today?
