Haha you had strong race! Well done! You almost got away on Voor Paardeberg Road..it took a solid rolling effort from me and three other guys to catch you again. My HR peaked at 202 and I had to fall back in the pack for about 20km just to recover a bit after that! When I moved forward again with around 25km to go I saw they were still letting you do most of the work!

I figured if I didn't inject some pace with an attack, people we just going to sit. I never stood a chance of getting away. You did some solid pulls yourself, appreciated having someone to recover behind without the pace dropping. You, the Maties guy and the PowerBar guy were yster

I took my chances riding in C Batch, as the solo lone Savage with the rest crew dispersed between A & E Batches. Tough ride, tried to do as much work as possible and judging from the times & Fly By's we pretty much ended up with the exactly the same pace as B Batch, so for those poor souls who also helped drive the pace off the front of C Batch well done!

Unfortunately not enough to bump me up to B Batch as my weighting is is now 20.02 so alas, but 99er to come this weekend

For the guys that were really looking forward to improving their seeding but ended up not, I finished, as per Racetec 6th position & best time of the day yet it did sweet $%^& to my seeding.

If you are already seeded in A batch exactly what seeding group do you want to improve to?

But yes, imo that is the big flaw in the Racetec seeding system, too many scenarios where it is impossible to improve your seeding even when you finish at the sharp end of your group. Too many races end up being a waste of money if your aim is to improve your seeding.

Can vouch that you worked your ass off in C batch as it was basically the 2 of us and 2 other guys doing all the pulling.

Always this weekend to try and get that 0.02 off again, see you at the sharp end of C

My son and I did the 97 km yesterday, it was our first road race in South Africa. It was very well organized and we both thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a look at the 97km and 71km results and pulled out the following:

97km – Youth riders – 34/1072

Male U19 – 20                 Male U17 – 7

Male U15 – 2                   Female U19 – 4

Female U17 – 1               Female U15 – 0

71km – Youth riders – 15/273

Male U19 – 6                   Male U17 – 0

Male U15 – 3                   Female U19 – 1

Female U17 – 1               Female U15 – 0

That is a combined total of 49 out of 1345 riders (71 and 97), only 3.6%

My son did the Lomond Triathlon solo sprint late last year. I think it is an ideal event for children with 400 m swim, 15km cycle and 6km run. Out of the 97 competitors (M and F) only 8 were between the ages of 12 and 17.

I also had a look at the results of 2019 Blue Lagoon triathlon in Langebaan. Again, distances that I think are ideal for children. 400m swim 10km cycle and 2.5km run. There were only 8 competitors (M and F) between ages 12 to 15.

One would think that with the strong swimming, cycling and running culture in the Western Cape that these events will attract a lot more youth competitors. Maybe it is the cost involved or the fact that summer sports like cricket and waterpolo overshadows the rest.

I think more kids are into mountain biking with the Spur League where it is just the kids competing against each other. That seems quite popular these days.

What index did the race give you? Flat race in perfect conditions, with top 50 or so riders within 5s of the winner, the beta isn't going to be high, which is why I didn't race. I'm assuming you want to improve on seeding to get seeded in $ for argus?

$ group for CTCT at this stage I wont make the cut, if I do I'll be very surprised for that to happen the index must be low & entrants for the $ group less than 150.

Also I've noticed that the only way to improve your index is to win a particular race.

Everyone's seedings are worse since the annual rebacing thing they do after the CTCT - so you might not be that far out.

It seems to me that outside the One Tonner & WCE there are not many local funrides useful for seeding if you want to be at the sharp end of A bunch.

Just checked my seeding, and last did a PPa road race in April (sportif #4)

since then, i have done 2 MTB races and somehow still have index under 10

I assumed road seeding doesn't use MTB results without a applying a penalty!?

How are you guys checking your seeding? I can only see my index.

Also what would be a good index leading up to CTCT, and what group should a sub 10 index put you in?

It actually does, until sportif #8 in December 2019 my previous best Race Index used was the 2018 Paarl Rock 3 Day mtb stage race, index was literally 1 since Racetec was used for timing. Every month it get penalised until I was dropped from A batch into B.
