Hi guys,

I have relocated to Summerstrand, PE (Qhebergha!?!) this week and am keen to get riding!

I spend most of my time on my MTB but like getting out and joining groups on the road as well for training. Now that I'm in PE I'm basically compelled to do another IM as well in the near future

I am looking for suggestions on where to ride, nice training routes and groups that I could potentially join for training rides etc. This will be for weekday and weekend rides.

Thanks in advance

Lots of amazing riding in PE.

The Baakens Valley is incredible and the Crossways farm is next level!

I'm on the Baakens Valley trails no less than four times a week for the last year and a bit and I'm still a l-o-o-o-n-g way off covering all the trails. A bit of a shame that I lived just two blocks away from it in Walmer for 22 years before bagging my first MTB. McDeezy se mooooer, I'm the one REALLY loving it.

Is it safe to ride on your own at all times? And to and from there from Summerstrand area...

Thanks! I’ve heard Crossways is great and seems like Baakens Balley is the go to...

Hundreds of solo rides in the valley and I've passed homeless persons/vagrants just four/five occasions and with zero issues, perhaps being a big guy who then speeds up helps. Fat Tracks are raising funds to install cameras at valley spots with multiple escape routes to further increase safety.

I ride several routes from Walmer to Summerstrand several times a week and road lanes and pavements are quite wide, and safe.

It's just a few k's from Summerstrand to enter the lower reaches of Baakens Valley at the bottom of Brickmaker's Kloof, with Bridge Street Brewery right there when you exit the valley again. I'm a bit of a noob and a lot of a geezer and if you can deal with that you're welcome to PM me for a valley intro.

Plenty of riding and riding groups in PE! My old home town, for roading, Marine Drive (

), down to Sardinia Bay, out to Van Stadens river mouth, MTB in Baakens River Valley, (Map here, not sure how updated it is...http://eastcapemtb.co.za/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Momsen-Valley-Map-Final-VM.pdf)

There's also a bunch of trails outside town..http://eastcapemtb.co.za/mtb-trails/

and don't forget Crazy Dave's Bike Park, you'll have a to find out if its open.... https://www.facebook.com/crazydavesbikepark/

ie you'll not be left wanting in the cycling department in PE....

Bridge street is great, Richmond Hill brewing co is right next door and even better!

Lots of great brewpubs in PE.
