Table Mountain post-fire closures: update on Rhodes Mem gate opening?

With the opening of quarry area, Devils Peak, Blockhouse and the Rhodes contour path in July and recently Deer Park at the start of August, does anyone know if there is an update on when the entrance from Rhodes Mem gate will be opened up again?

No definite date given, but it won't be for a while. There are a lot more dangerously burnt trees to fell before allowing the public in. Deer Park is mostly cleared now.

There seems to be a well used route up to the Block House on the CBD side. I havent zoomed in on Strava to see where they come up.

But there is no (legit) access from the Rhodes Mem side that I am aware of.

Any further news on this? I'm wanting to ride from Rhodes mem gate to tafelberg road tomorrow morning. From what I'm reading above that's not possible?

I don’t think the gate is open if you’re having to Chuck your bike over the turnstile.

I went there today, still loads of no-entry signage, gate still padlocked.

I threw the bike over the fence and went for a looksee anyway, the state of all the tree cutting is super sad. The UCT XCO track is a memory.

there is still a make shift bob-wired fence at the tree at the bottom of plum pudding, so traffic from the cable car side is also being blocked.

bob-wired.... This made my day. Thank you.

SANparks twitter said something about it opening up systematically. Newlands raving and that section of the contour path is open, so I would guess they are opening up bits when they are done with the refurb.

FYI as no public cars can access the Rhodes mem area, the gate will remain closed. Lifting ones bike over the wall while using the turn style has always been the 'modus operandi' there as far as I remember.

Hopefully it is actually open and all the guys riding there aren't just annoying 'parks. That doesn't end well in the long run
