Having followed the Epic quite closely I was super happy to see Speed Company Racing win on the last day. Their Orbea Oiz made a good impression as well, and I see Orbea are quick to capitalise on the success.

Out of interest, how much are we talking about more or less?

Plenty $$$$

Awesome to see a more ‘unknown’ brand on top. Underdog racers on underdog racing machines.

Yeah here we only know Spez bru

I did a race in Spain 3 years back. Blown away to see literally every 2nd oke on a Orbea.

Orbea road and mtb's were very popular in SA between 1998 and 2010, there after they disappeared as the new distributor was more focused on the triathlon bikes

It comes down for most to what bikes (brands) are available easily in your country and on any given day available on shop floors.

There are some very good / strong international brands out there, which for whatever reason are not imported by various countries, and if they have in past, not in vigour.  Orbea is a good example, who as someone else noted, has massive support and market share in Europe and elsewhere, but in SA,  you are would hardly see them at your weekly Trailseeker event, among all the other brands we've become accustomed to in SA.

As for Orbea, the company was founded towards the end of 1800's.  They have won many international bike and brand competitions over the years, such as brand of the year and last year their E-bike (Rise) won the International Design and Innovation Award.  They have a number of professional road and MTB team they sponsor, and one will always remember the great success of Julian Absolon when he was racing to victory after victory on the XCO World Cup circuits some years back.

Excited to see the full range of their road and mtbs hit our shores - next shipment of stock said to arrive with CWC and CycleLab in the 3rd week of April.

The Oiz, as ridden at the Epic by Speedcompany, does not put a foot wrong. 6 Months down the line, and no complaints!

There are many great bikes out there and this is one of them!

I've just become an Orbea dealer over here. Amazing bikes and competitive pricing. Now to get my hands on a Oiz and Terra so I can start understanding the bikes a bit more.  Orca Aero to follow :-)
