Any tips to manage the Boland sonnetjie on Sunday, other than heat adaptation prior?

(especially those who were at the WP Champs)

I didn't do champs, but my advice would be to trap as hard as you can from the gun so you out there less time and finish earlier...

my strategy anyway 🙃

Pretty sure you have a better idea than most!

I'm considering staying home and going to the beach....

If you don't have a team car I think doing the unstylish and riding with as much extra water you can carry is a must. I did the 158 and went through a good couple of bottles from the car and team mates and definitely could have had more - I felt the effects of dehydration in the last 15km properly. As usual eat and drink from the beginning but when you drink try chug twice as much as you usually would. A 500ml only lasted about 3 bottle cage exits for me. Definitely go 750s if you have, maybe a seatpost mount or even camelbak... It was rough

Interesting question Dale - Other than the obvious point of finding ways to stay hydrated I don't think there are any short cuts to heat adaption?

Think the best advice to a weekend warrior would be to approach the race as conservatively as possible and recognise that the heat will be sapping your energy far more than you might be realising. So drop the heroics of solo break-aways and pulling the bunch for miles and just wheel suck as much as you can.

The minute the heat kicks in you're going through bottles very very quickly. Best trying to organise roadside assistance (or support vehicule) if possible, let's see what the rules are going to be.

Also about 10 secs before my wife arrived the opposite way to pick me up, a guy on the road side gave me an ice bag to put on my neck, that felt good, definitely something to consider !

Dont say that
