As a 2-pin plug it won’t have an earth wire.

Exactly. OP has a UK plug that has an earth that would not be connected if using the suggested modified 2-pin adaptor. Cutting and fitting an SA 3-pin is the best move for your KICKR, but apparently that voids the warranty.

I'm surprised that this plug passed the NRCS inspection, although the plug is compatible in SA.

For those that don't know, the below socket is used in Europe (Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Spain and Eastern Europe).

Pffftttt, then just about everything in my house that enters with a 2 pin plug no longer has a warranty 😁

I used to do exactly the same, then many years ago tried to get a faulty appliance warrantied and it was pointed out. Went back and checked on other appliances and they all state similar regards to original plugs and cabling.

But as has been stated earlier, you can still plug it into dodgy multiplugs or even worse, Eskom power and keep the warranty.

Not sure how the importers/distributers got this approved by the NRCS, if it was approved. The standard clearly states that the plug shall not be sold in SA (this is 2010). The first-gen Kickr would have had been made after this date (2012).

My company imports products with a plug, and we had to change the standard Schuko plug on devices, that are sold in certain European countries, to the 3-pin plug we all know well in SA. The kettle/PC plug is simple enough to source for a manufacturer and the only thing that need to change to make it compliant.

You need to break the support bits. My works fine, on all my appliances with the same type of plug.

That is not a good idea because the plug needs an earth - the metal bits on the side. The bottom picture is the proper socket for it.

I’m aware of that, and I’m also aware that the Kickr’s plug in question is illegal in SA (for that very reason).
