So the same as last time then? Cold, wet, muddy. I would suggest a hardtail if you have a choice….that last bit on a drop bar bike was torture in the mud after getting through 99% . Also, bring an extra water bottle and lube so you can clean your drivetrain. Dont try to stay dry….you’ll only end up keeping the water and mud IN haha.

Please stop washing your bibs in OMO……also, wet it, put it on, bend over in front of a mirror. If you can see that your starfish needs bleaching…get a new bib please.

Can someone please give me a steer on tyre pressure?

I know it’s a subjective topic but don’t have the benefit of time to test.
It’s my first gravel event on a full rigid as well.

For reference, I’m running the Pirelli Cintaurato 45M’s on rim with a 19mm ID.

I weigh around 96kg.
I generally run by MTB at 25PSI on the rear and 21PSI on the front, on a wider rim with inserts as well though.
Took the bike for a spin on the road and ran 30PSI and that was very comfortable, but was on tar, the off-road sections I went over on the route also felt okay…

Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!

I have exactly the same tyres on 19mm rims and weigh 73kgs...I run 2 bar in front and 2,2 bar rear...you weigh 20kgs more than me so 30psi [2 bar] is waaaay too low...look at 2,3 front and 2.5 rear

I run the 40mm version of that tyre, I'm 80kg.

On tar: 40/45psi

Gravel: 35/40psi

Next weekend, probably: 33/37psi

Feels like argus week with all the low accuracy long range weather forecasts getting bibshorts tangled.

The difference with gravel is that the forecast doesn’t have to be as accurate as tar. Any rain in the 2 days prior to the event and we’re in for a mud fest.

I am in Greyton and there is no rain predicted this week...although it is a strange time of the year for such an event since the roads here remain super muddy most of winter...

But it’s also the prettiest time of the year with the green and yellow fields.

With spring time being harvest, and fall being planting season, it leaves winter and summer.

That .... and the fact that September and October is so overbooked with other events.
