Q20 cable casing

Is it okay to spray q20 in the cable casing of my dropper? My hope is it will lube the cable a bit.

With modern housings that is farting against thunder. And the xfusion manic has one of the best lever feels, so if it doesn't feel lekker anymore, it is time to replace the cable and the housing.

I dunno. spraying some lube seems to be an easy quickfix for me. if it is so gunked up and doesn't work then replace.

the best lube for cable housings in my experience is Finish Line chain lube...it is super runny and works really well..replacing a cable and housing is cheap but a bit of a faff if routed internally..

submerge your cable inner in melted candle wax for 20min or so. Take it out, wipe it clean and install. Least mess and last very long.

When we were riding dirtbikes still a friend suggested using wynflon spray on my bikes cables, it made a massive difference to how everything felt

It will buy you some time but ultimately it will pick up dust/powder and gunge up even worse.

Fine if you need it working stat - not great as a medium/long term solution.

Cable and housing around R100.  You are doing the labour anyway if you remove to clean.  To me not worth it just to buy a bit of time.

Q20 is for water displacement and decreasing and doesn't work well as a lubricant. So rather just use it to flush the gunk out the housing and then blast with air to get rid of the Q20. Then you can use a lithium based grease to lube the cable. WD40 makes a spray-able white lithium grease that works well for this purpose. But if it's a once off job, rather just replace the housing, it will cost almost the same as buying the WD product.

Decent cable housing is lined, once it start getting sticky it means the lining is shot. Replace, even if it is a hack.

 

As mentioned above, oiling will buy you some time but is essentially just putting lipstick on a pig. Thermophage has the only workable solution here, but even that is just pushing the actual job further down the road.
