By way of comparison, there's a segment in Cape Town over the N2 into Pinelands with double the elevation gain

Something ive noticed in stage racing when it comes to classifying climbs. While climb difficulty does play a role in the classification. How much KOM points the organizers want to dish out also plays a role in deciding how to classify a climb.

Ive seen climbs get degraded or like in this case, elevated just so that the KOM points race can be heated up.

Meanwhile, Bora snags a stage win with their Giro winner and likely GC favourite is more than 40 seconds behind.
Bernie is now a sports director with the German based team.

Carapaz signs 3 years, I think, with the team on Cannondales. And DvB heads ‘home’ to Jumbo-Visma from next year

Good to see the rainbow jersey rebuild his race form in the peloton. His bokkie is either adding or removing aerodynamic gains from his CdA.

Finally the racing can start after the borefest in Utrecht. There's enough interesting riding in Spain, no need to trek halfway across Europe.

100%. It's not as if Belgium doesn't have a bike race or two already. Rather spend the money and brainpower on finding a way to take the Vuelta to Mallorca! an uphill TT up Sa Calobra will be one for the ages

I really don't understand this trend of starting tour de [country] in some other country oposite side of the continent. Now you've got to fly everyone to the first country, then to the second, that is often closer to where they all live (italy, france, spain...). I get that you want to connect with the viewers from these places, but what on paper is supposed to be a clean-ish sport (if you close your eyes on the 100 cars behind the peleton) is becoming like F1 or MotoGP where you end up constantly flying hundreds of people and tons of stuff everywhere...

And nobody mentions Impey finishing second today?

Great comebacks on those hills. Interesting tactic I noticed recently in letting the mountain goats attack each other on the steep sections when you ride steady tempo and catch them when they recovering. Like what Impey did today.
