Tygerberg MTB club newsletter - unacceptable

Recommended Posts

So, there was a newsletter sent out this week by tygerberg mtb club which i happened to read….

i quote:

Lastly trail wise, we have spent a large amount of time the past few weeks on fixing the trashed corners of the Hoogies Hammer and Bloemendal Flow Trail. We all know as to why these corners get trached..... yip..... those cutty, flicky, braaping specialists who take great pleasure in plying their godforsaken trade whilst going through those corners..... It drives me and my trail crew insane, as its US that has to go back time after time after time to  fix their mess. Why cant they just ride a corner the way it is supposed to be ridden? It is seriously irritating and should you, as a member encounter any twit cuttying those corners, you have my full permission to deliver them a moerse PK. Nuff said!

As a member, this is a totally unacceptable line of communication. No wonder people call them the tygerberg mountain bike Cult.  I get their gripes, but there is a way to say things and not.

I emailed them back with these exact critiques. This is not 1985, they are service providers regardless of the fact what either beginners or not so beginners do on the trails…they pay to use them. @tygerbergmtb is a service a provider and everyone paying to use the trails are its clients. Absolutely no professional environment would tolerate this kind of talk towards their clients or staff for that matter.  Imagine telling an administrator or anyone really you want to ‘PK’ so and so because they made your life a bit less easy.
No joy. Imo it shows how removed from reality they are. This is unacceptable.

members should not condone this kind of passive aggressive BS towards anyone.
I have asked for a public apology. I encourage you to do the same.

Does Patrick want a red Barret now as well as a red overall? This is EFF tactics and I am NOT taking too kindly to this.

I support a public retraction and some form of club discipline.

If Tygerberg Mountain Bike Club is going to remain silent on this matter as they have been doing till now then they endorse Patrick's sentiments.

I'm sure Giant Tygerberg and Reeds N1 Isuzu won't mind a public boycott of their business until such time as they hold the club that they sponsor to account for bringing cycling and their sponsors into such callous disrepute.

I'm disgusted by this turn of events.

Please just take note of the language used in the newsletter is unfortunately very derogatory, and for a newsletter that is read by people of all ages and from different backgrounds, this may be seen as offensive, see the below quote from the newsletter, "you have my full permission to deliver them a moerse PK".

Not to mention that anyone can sign up for the newsletter.

Will the member code of conduct now be rewritten to include dishing out PKs to anyone and everyone?
Then also, let's note that we as the members of the club are all PAYING members, thus we should expect some sort of professionalism, and using language such as that, and expecting members to violently deal with each other is just a recipe for disaster.

As such, this is showing that the club is far removed from reality and wants to be seen as a committee of untouchables that rule and laude it over the general members of TBMTBC.
Should we mention this turn of events from the club to Giant Tygerberg, as well as Reeds N1 Isuzu? Are they aware of you inciting violence, as well as bringing their brands into disrepute?
Quite simply, until a public apology is made, the statements retracted and the actions condoned, a public boycott of those businesses will be enacted.

Part of mail sent forth.

Honest question: What is the correct way to go around a corner?

I just want to avoid any klappe if I am ever down there!

Apparently, as slow as a grandma driving a hyundai i10 doing 40km/h in the right hand lane.

So translated to bike terms, nothing more than 10km/h and you have to do a mandatory dismount before getting into the corner.

JA, well no fine!

Firstly, the trails are open to anyone willing to pay regardless of skill levels....whilst roosting and drifting into corners is not particularly good MTB etiquette, it is part of the sport...I don't recall having to pass any sort of skills test before riding there...

Secondly, if true, these comments are outside their constitution guidelines which actually also provide guidelines for dealing with members bringing the name of the club into dis-repute, however, since one of the elements of the constitution has been apparently flagrantly dis-regarded, with apparent committee endorsement, is there any hope that the disciplinary guidelines will be applied?

Lastly,

I dunno...boggles the mind that this type of statement in this day and age would be publicly circulated in a club memo!*

Let's wait for the Club's response before lighting torches...I do enjoy riding there!

I don't get this newsletter...but what would I have to do to warrant a "PK"???...said "PK" better be legally defensible...(doubtful but lets hear it!!)

Only been a member for two years but those emails have always come across as unprofessional and a whine session. If it's not to dry it's to wet etc.

The subcontractors this year have done a great job with keeping more trails ride-able. Perhaps it's time to give one of them the reigns for some fresh blood.

^^^THIS ^^^

Patrick is spending a lot of resources to maintain the trails, with a short window period of rain to properly repair it for the next year.

Then barely a week later a handful of riders skid the crap out of the trails ....

For the rest of the year the rest of the club members have to endure the brake hole entering so many fun sections of the trails .... spoiling the fun for everyone.

This topic comes up in club letters on a very regular basis.  Patrick HAS tried every approach over YEARS to get people to take better care of the trails.

This behaviour of a small group of riders is costing the rest of us !!!!  Both in terms of money and resources that could have be better applied.

In true WOKE style the rest of this saga wont be about those that willfully damage the trails. But rather about the latest rant of Patrick about this "behaviour" .....

Asseblief mense, ons KAN die trails geniet, sonder om dit deur ons gat te trek ....

Two wrongs don't make a right... Like with the constant warning for people who shouldn't trespass after 5 on some of the links, perhaps it's time the club takes a proactive approach and start policing/banning members instead of putting things out into the void and hoping people read through another rant

Not only that, the member may be frustrated by the lack of respect that other riders display but that certainly does not condone his threats, its the antithesis of club promotion.

Imagine the trail builders at Le Gets Mainline take that attitude! Those braking bumps are left to become doubles!!!!!🤣

It points to a weak editor of that news letter and possibly a good indicator of weak leadership at the club. It is such a pity. I was one of the first guys to sign up at TBMTBC when it was essentially just Hillcrest (with that see-saw) and a bit of community work we did on Majick at the time. Its such a pity as their model should be a good one, and with Winelands MTB going the same sort of route, I hope that Winelands will learn from TBMTBC’s perceived arrogance.

As far as I know, Winelands (Paarl network) is not a club. We pay for yearly trail access. I've never received a newsletter (including the correct administration of PK's or otherwise).

Maybe we should take it from where it comes...I haven't read one of his crass newsletters in a while.

It's worse than spam and serves less purpose.
