Getting to that time of the year where we wrap up the year (okay, still a mountain of work to get done .... just as soon as clients provide the feedback we need to wrap up our designs)

Also that time of year where we start penciling in key dates for the next year ....

My initial thoughts for 2024....

May well add a few Trailseeker MTB events to this list.

Let's hear your thoughts and plans.

This year I raced at least once a month so next year I'll change it up a bit. Probably a bit more adventure/exploratory riding to get out there and actually take in the surroundings a bit more.

There will still be racing but only the big stuff.

WC Road Racing up until CTCT
36One
Double Pot
Ceder
Maybeeee Sedgefield 500 depending on dates and how the previous races go.

Should be a vibe!

I am having fun with this 2024 planner.

One colour for paid events.

Another colour for events I may want to enter.

Even space to make a few notes.

Also nice to see the year planner and discuss the family plans with the Boss.

With any luck I wont read, and comment, on nice upcoming events threads .... to see it next pop up as done and dusted ....

It all depends on finances.

The 2 that WILL be done are CTCT and 947

2 that I would like to do given finances would be Ride for Sight in Feb and either Kremetart or Parys outride in September.

Did you do the Parys outride this year...remember that we discussed ways on how to achieve 200km. Never got to do the event, but now that you mention it and if you did the event how was the ride.

JIP, finances is thee decider in our house as well.

Trans Augrabies is our main budget event, not unlike your trip for CTCT.  We turn it into a week holiday and get best value this way.

Sadly so many events bottleneck in September and October.

At least this layout allows me to "pencil in" events, and then plan our cycling around family commitments and finances.

yep, did it this year.

I joined the slowest group, 26km/h avg, I think it was the right choice as the pace was very relaxed. Actually way to relaxed sometimes, but given the distance and how I felt near the end it was the right choice.

But at that speed its a loooong day in the saddle, 7h40 riding time, 9 hours total time. The body was sore after.

It also gets HOT out there, my Garmin recorded a max temp of 40deg.

But I like the challenge, will be better prepared on what to expect next time.

My calender is like a wishlist of late...

Entry, travel and nutrition is just to costly to maintain these days.

Even our "local Pros" are samming okes for a R400. #ToughTimes

I just picked up nutrition for the next couple of months from CycleLab. With their MyCycleLife vouchers I basically paid 50% less.

2024 planned highlights for me:

My Ratel Attakwas in January - then I have to do one more of this cursed ride after this to actually ride with the black number board

Race to the Sun - going up north in May to check out the big boys doing the National Gravel Champs

Trans Baviaans - haven't done this one in a decade, will skip the annual winter break next year to actually have a semblance of fitness in August

Lazy Hippo Stage Race - just to try something different and take the family along

Then a big maybe - depending on finances - fly up for the RideJoburg 94.7 - I feel like I have still unfinished business with that race.

My next is also my Ratel. Probably not 2024 🙃

I get a headache the minute I try think about atta logistics on my own. Def need to get a mate or 2 together to make it much easier. Still think the timing of the event is as good as it gets. November and December (longer warmer days) to get your sh*t in order.
