Lezyne valve core mini pump alternative

Recommended Posts

I own a Lezyne mini pump that screws onto the valve core (similar to the video below but without the valve core tensioner)

... it frustrates me when I unscrew the hoze and the valve core comes out with it.

Is there any similar mini pumps out there, with a flexible hose that doesn't screw onto the valve core?

or

What other quality mini pump can I purchace alternatively, to carry on the bike during out rides, that won't split/fail on first use? 🙃

I have used both of mine a good many times.

The "high volume" one once did this ... it was seriously frustrating to get that tyre inflated.

Still dont know why .....

Been dropped too many times by the "clamp on" type, so I really enjoy these pumps.

Let's hope the collective Hub wisdom has an answer.

Just tighten valve core with a spoke tensioning tool

Nice tip thanks ... for valve cores in general!

I find those plastic ones work most of the time but now and then you come across a stubborn core and the plastic just 'strips'. I've always used a long nose but that removes it but makes a mess of it.

Will add the correct size spoke tensioner to my 'tubeless kit'

Thanks again

A tough of light grease on the internal threads of the pump hose fixed the issue for me

I have one of these, i got it for the same reasons this guy mentioned too.

I also had the issue of valve core coming out sometimes after inflating.

To prevent this, i put a bit of spit on the core before pumping, the hose doesn;t grip it then when unscrewing.

simple.

Here is the answer to all your problems.

I use a similar when I work on my bikes - no issues with cores coming loose.

When we had the issue next to the road with a core coming loose it was a friends bike .... no idea what was used to tighten that core.

@EddieV when you unscrew it, do you press the pressure release valve?

the foolproof method: make sure you have tight valve cores (this is in general, not just for this pump) so keep a cheap valve core tool around, many sealant bottles, valve sets and toolkits come with one. screw the hose to the valve first, snug but not overly tight, it doesnt need to be. Then screw the pump to the hose. go wild. when you're done, press the button, unscrew the pump body first, then unscrew the hose from the valve.

depending on what you have, very few pumps match the lezyne ones for quality, weight, size and output, so getting anything else is a gamble in its own right.

I have a Silca Tattico pump. It’s expensive but I will never need another. Beautifully made and makes short work of pumping up tires. It doesn’t use a screw on head and has a built in hose.

Apart from the thread on annoyance, lezyne pumps have that bump on the top, if you have a bad day and need to pump a tire multiple times, the pain from that bump in your palm gets pretty bad and stays with you for a few days after.

A good, more reasonably priced alternative are the topeak pumps. I think the one I had was the Pocket Rocket.

Yeah Silca stuff isn't easy to get in SA. Merlin stocks quite a lot and their prices are pretty good - including their shipping: https://www.merlincycles.com/silca-tattico-mini-pump-105218.html
