Hi, we’re at Crown (Kenilworth), Granny Gear (Bloemandal) in WC and Powerlab (Randburg) in GP.

When I was a kid, waai/vaai was a slang word meaning "to go".  eg: "That thing really vaais" - That thing can really move (if talking about a car or bike, say). Or the classic "vaai pozi": lets go home. Maybe this was generational or local to an specific area (KZN/SD), all I know is that I've never heard anyone say "vaai pozi" in stellenbosch 😆.

I always assumed it came from "waai" in afrikaans but apparently there might be portuguese influence too, which checks out:

The company goes WAY back, but in short, the founder of VYE as we know it is Bjorn Vye, which where VYE gets its name.

Is Vye closing down?

No option to place custom orders and google shows Permanently closed.

If so, it's a sad sad thing to be happening to a great brand and Bjorn is a great guy.

Shareholders have taken control and want to turn it into a cash cow. 

No more custom kit. Bjorn isn't in charge anylonger. My blood is boiling for a few weeks already

Hey everyone,

I appreciate the concern and kind words about Vye, it really means a lot. To clear things up: Vye isn’t closing, but we’ve had to make some tough decisions to keep the brand going. Custom kit is on pause while we assess whether it’s feasible to continue producing it locally, and for now, we’re focusing on keeping the retail range available.

It’s been a really challenging time, but our goal has always been to deliver quality kit to the cycling community that's manufactured locally, and we're doing everything we can to make sure that continues. We always encourage supporting local brands where possible  thanks for all the support!
